1 These be the words|strong="H1697" which Moses|strong="H4872" spake|strong="H1696" unto all Israel|strong="H3478" on this side|strong="H5676" Jordan|strong="H3383" in the wilderness|strong="H4057", in the plain|strong="H6160" over against|strong="H4136" the Red|strong="H5489" sea, between Paran|strong="H6290", and Tophel|strong="H8603", and Laban|strong="H3837", and Hazeroth|strong="H2698", and Dizahab|strong="H1774".
2 (There are eleven|strong="H0259" days’|strong="H3117" journey from Horeb|strong="H2722" by the way|strong="H1870" of mount|strong="H2022" Seir|strong="H8165" unto Kadesh-barnea|strong="H6947".)
3 And it came to pass in the fortieth|strong="H0705" year|strong="H8141", in the eleventh|strong="H6249" month|strong="H2320", on the first|strong="H0259" day of the month|strong="H2320", that Moses|strong="H4872" spake|strong="H1696" unto the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478", according unto all that the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* had given him in commandment|strong="H6680" unto them;
4 After|strong="H0310" he had slain|strong="H5221" Sihon|strong="H5511" the king|strong="H4428" of the Amorites|strong="H0567", which dwelt|strong="H3427" in Heshbon|strong="H2809", and Og|strong="H5747" the king|strong="H4428" of Bashan|strong="H1316", which dwelt|strong="H3427" at Astaroth|strong="H6252" in Edrei|strong="H0154":
5 On this side|strong="H5676" Jordan|strong="H3383", in the land|strong="H0776" of Moab|strong="H4124", began|strong="H2974" Moses|strong="H4872" to declare|strong="H0874" this law|strong="H8451", saying|strong="H0559",
6 The \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* our God|strong="H0430" spake|strong="H1696" unto us in Horeb|strong="H2722", saying|strong="H0559", Ye have dwelt|strong="H3427" long enough|strong="H7227" in this mount|strong="H2022":
7 Turn|strong="H6437" you, and take your journey|strong="H5265", and go|strong="H0935" to the mount|strong="H2022" of the Amorites|strong="H0567", and unto all the places nigh|strong="H7934" thereunto, in the plain|strong="H6160", in the hills|strong="H2022", and in the vale|strong="H8219", and in the south|strong="H5045", and by the sea|strong="H3220" side|strong="H2348", to the land|strong="H0776" of the Canaanites|strong="H3669", and unto Lebanon|strong="H3844", unto the great|strong="H1419" river|strong="H5104", the river|strong="H5104" Euphrates|strong="H6578".
8 Behold|strong="H7200", I have set|strong="H5414" the land|strong="H0776" before|strong="H6440" you: go|strong="H0935" in and possess|strong="H3423" the land|strong="H0776" which the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* sware|strong="H7650" unto your fathers|strong="H0001", Abraham|strong="H0085", Isaac|strong="H3327", and Jacob|strong="H3290", to give|strong="H5414" unto them and to their seed|strong="H2233" after|strong="H0310" them.
9 And I spake|strong="H0559" unto you at that time|strong="H6256", saying|strong="H0559", I am not able|strong="H3201" to bear|strong="H5375" you myself alone|strong="H0905":
10 The \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* your God|strong="H0430" hath multiplied|strong="H7235" you, and, behold, ye are this day|strong="H3117" as the stars|strong="H3556" of heaven|strong="H8064" for multitude|strong="H7230".
11 (The \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of your fathers|strong="H0001" make you a thousand|strong="H0505" times|strong="H6471" so many more as|strong="H3254" ye are, and bless|strong="H1288" you, as he hath promised|strong="H1696" you!)
12 How|strong="H0349" can I myself alone bear|strong="H5375" your cumbrance|strong="H2960", and your burden|strong="H4853", and your strife|strong="H7379"?
13 Take|strong="H3051" you wise|strong="H2450" men|strong="H0582", and understanding|strong="H0995", and known|strong="H3045" among your tribes|strong="H7626", and I will make|strong="H7760" them rulers|strong="H7218" over you.
14 And ye answered|strong="H6030" me, and said|strong="H0559", The thing|strong="H1697" which thou hast spoken|strong="H1696" is good|strong="H2896" for us to do|strong="H6213".
15 So I took|strong="H3947" the chief|strong="H7218" of your tribes|strong="H7626", wise|strong="H2450" men|strong="H0582", and known|strong="H3045", and made|strong="H5414" them heads|strong="H7218" over you, captains|strong="H8269" over thousands|strong="H0505", and captains|strong="H8269" over hundreds|strong="H3967", and captains|strong="H8269" over fifties|strong="H2572", and captains|strong="H8269" over tens|strong="H6235", and officers|strong="H7860" among your tribes|strong="H7626".
16 And I charged|strong="H6680" your judges|strong="H8199" at that time|strong="H6256", saying|strong="H0559", Hear|strong="H8085" the causes between your brethren|strong="H0251", and judge|strong="H8199" righteously|strong="H6664" between every man|strong="H0376" and his brother|strong="H0251", and the stranger|strong="H1616" that is with him.
17 Ye shall not respect|strong="H5234" persons|strong="H6440" in judgment|strong="H4941"; but ye shall hear|strong="H8085" the small|strong="H6996" as well as the great|strong="H1419"; ye shall not be afraid|strong="H1481" of the face|strong="H6440" of man|strong="H0376"; for the judgment|strong="H4941" is God’s|strong="H0430": and the cause|strong="H1697" that is too hard|strong="H7185" for you, bring|strong="H7126" it unto me, and I will hear|strong="H8085" it.
18 And I commanded|strong="H6680" you at that time|strong="H6256" all the things|strong="H1697" which ye should do|strong="H6213".
19 And when we departed|strong="H5265" from Horeb|strong="H2722", we went through|strong="H3212" all that great|strong="H1419" and terrible|strong="H3372" wilderness|strong="H4057", which ye saw|strong="H7200" by the way|strong="H1870" of the mountain|strong="H2022" of the Amorites|strong="H0567", as the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* our God|strong="H0430" commanded|strong="H6680" us; and we came|strong="H0935" to Kadesh-barnea|strong="H6947".
20 And I said|strong="H0559" unto you, Ye are come|strong="H0935" unto the mountain|strong="H2022" of the Amorites|strong="H0567", which the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* our God|strong="H0430" doth give|strong="H5414" unto us.
21 Behold|strong="H7200", the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* thy God|strong="H0430" hath set|strong="H5414" the land|strong="H0776" before|strong="H6440" thee: go up|strong="H5927" and possess|strong="H3423" it, as the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of thy fathers|strong="H0001" hath said|strong="H1696" unto thee; fear|strong="H3372" not, neither be discouraged|strong="H2865".
22 And ye came near|strong="H7126" unto me every one of you, and said|strong="H0559", We will send|strong="H7971" men|strong="H0582" before|strong="H6440" us, and they shall search us out|strong="H2658" the land|strong="H0776", and bring|strong="H7725" us word|strong="H1697" again|strong="H7725" by what way|strong="H1870" we must go up|strong="H5927", and into what cities|strong="H5892" we shall come|strong="H0935".
23 And the saying|strong="H1697" pleased me well|strong="H3190": and I took|strong="H3947" twelve|strong="H8147" men|strong="H0582" of you, one|strong="H0259" of a tribe|strong="H0376":
24 And they turned|strong="H6437" and went up|strong="H5927" into the mountain|strong="H2022", and came|strong="H0935" unto the valley|strong="H5158" of Eshcol|strong="H0812", and searched it out|strong="H7270".
25 And they took|strong="H3947" of the fruit|strong="H6529" of the land|strong="H0776" in their hands|strong="H3027", and brought it down|strong="H3381" unto us, and brought|strong="H7725" us word|strong="H1697" again|strong="H7725", and said|strong="H0559", It is a good|strong="H2896" land|strong="H0776" which the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* our God|strong="H0430" doth give|strong="H5414" us.
26 Notwithstanding ye would|strong="H0014" not go up|strong="H5927", but rebelled|strong="H4784" against the commandment|strong="H6310" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* your God|strong="H0430":
27 And ye murmured|strong="H7279" in your tents|strong="H0168", and said|strong="H0559", Because the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hated|strong="H8135" us, he hath brought us forth|strong="H3318" out of the land|strong="H0776" of Egypt|strong="H4714", to deliver|strong="H5414" us into the hand|strong="H3027" of the Amorites|strong="H0567", to destroy|strong="H8045" us.
28 Whither shall we go up|strong="H5927"? our brethren|strong="H0251" have discouraged|strong="H4549" our heart|strong="H3824", saying|strong="H0559", The people|strong="H5971" is greater|strong="H1419" and taller|strong="H7311" than we; the cities|strong="H5892" are great|strong="H1419" and walled up|strong="H1219" to heaven|strong="H8064"; and moreover we have seen|strong="H7200" the sons|strong="H1121" of the Anakims|strong="H6062" there.
29 Then I said|strong="H0559" unto you, Dread|strong="H6206" not, neither be afraid|strong="H3372" of them.
30 The \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* your God|strong="H0430" which goeth|strong="H1980" before|strong="H6440" you, he shall fight|strong="H3898" for you, according to all that he did|strong="H6213" for you in Egypt|strong="H4714" before your eyes|strong="H5869";
31 And in the wilderness|strong="H4057", where thou hast seen|strong="H7200" how that the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* thy God|strong="H0430" bare|strong="H5375" thee, as a man|strong="H0376" doth bear|strong="H5375" his son|strong="H1121", in all the way|strong="H1870" that ye went|strong="H1980", until ye came|strong="H0935" into this place|strong="H4725".
32 Yet in this thing|strong="H1697" ye did not believe|strong="H0539" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* your God|strong="H0430",
33 Who went|strong="H1980" in the way|strong="H1870" before|strong="H6440" you, to search you out|strong="H8446" a place|strong="H4725" to pitch your tents|strong="H2583" in, in fire|strong="H0784" by night|strong="H3915", to shew|strong="H7200" you by what way|strong="H1870" ye should go|strong="H3212", and in a cloud|strong="H6051" by day|strong="H3119".
34 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* heard|strong="H8085" the voice|strong="H6963" of your words|strong="H1697", and was wroth|strong="H7107", and sware|strong="H7650", saying|strong="H0559",
35 Surely there shall not one|strong="H0376" of these men|strong="H0582" of this evil|strong="H7451" generation|strong="H1755" see|strong="H7200" that good|strong="H2896" land|strong="H0776", which I sware|strong="H7650" to give|strong="H5414" unto your fathers|strong="H0001",
36 Save|strong="H2108" Caleb|strong="H3612" the son|strong="H1121" of Jephunneh|strong="H3312"; he shall see|strong="H7200" it, and to him will I give|strong="H5414" the land|strong="H0776" that|strong="H0834" he hath trodden upon|strong="H1869", and to his children|strong="H1121", because he hath wholly|strong="H4390" followed|strong="H0310" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
37 Also the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* was angry|strong="H0599" with me for your sakes|strong="H1558", saying|strong="H0559", Thou also shalt not go|strong="H0935" in thither|strong="H8033".
38 But Joshua|strong="H3091" the son|strong="H1121" of Nun|strong="H5126", which standeth|strong="H5975" before|strong="H6440" thee, he shall go in|strong="H0935" thither: encourage|strong="H2388" him: for he shall cause Israel|strong="H3478" to inherit|strong="H5157" it.
39 Moreover your little ones|strong="H2945", which ye said|strong="H0559" should be a prey|strong="H0957", and your children|strong="H1121", which in that day|strong="H3117" had no knowledge|strong="H3045" between good|strong="H2896" and evil|strong="H7451", they shall go in|strong="H0935" thither, and unto them will I give|strong="H5414" it, and they shall possess|strong="H3423" it.
40 But as for you, turn|strong="H6437" you, and take your journey|strong="H5265" into the wilderness|strong="H4057" by the way|strong="H1870" of the Red|strong="H5488" sea|strong="H3220".
41 Then ye answered|strong="H6030" and said|strong="H0559" unto me, We have sinned|strong="H2398" against the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, we will go up|strong="H5927" and fight|strong="H3898", according to all that the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* our God|strong="H0430" commanded|strong="H6680" us. And when ye had girded|strong="H2296" on every man|strong="H0376" his weapons|strong="H3627" of war|strong="H4421", ye were ready|strong="H1951" to go up|strong="H5927" into the hill|strong="H2022".
42 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H0559" unto me, Say|strong="H0559" unto them, Go not up|strong="H5927", neither fight|strong="H3898"; for I am not among|strong="H7130" you; lest ye be smitten|strong="H5062" before|strong="H6440" your enemies|strong="H0341".
43 So I spake|strong="H1696" unto you; and ye would not hear|strong="H8085", but rebelled|strong="H4784" against the commandment|strong="H6310" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and went|strong="H5927" presumptuously|strong="H2102" up|strong="H5927" into the hill|strong="H2022".
44 And the Amorites|strong="H0567", which dwelt|strong="H3427" in that mountain|strong="H2022", came out|strong="H3318" against|strong="H7125" you, and chased|strong="H7291" you, as bees|strong="H1682" do|strong="H6213", and destroyed|strong="H3807" you in Seir|strong="H8165", even unto Hormah|strong="H2767".
45 And ye returned|strong="H7725" and wept|strong="H1058" before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; but the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* would not hearken|strong="H8085" to your voice|strong="H6963", nor give ear|strong="H0238" unto you.
46 So ye abode|strong="H3427" in Kadesh|strong="H6946" many|strong="H7227" days|strong="H3117", according unto the days|strong="H3117" that ye abode|strong="H3427" there.
