And it came to pass, when David|strong="H1732" and his men|strong="H0582" were come|strong="H0935" to Ziklag|strong="H6860" on the third|strong="H7992" day|strong="H3117", that the Amalekites|strong="H6003" had invaded|strong="H6584" the south|strong="H5045", and Ziklag|strong="H6860", and smitten|strong="H5221" Ziklag|strong="H6860", and burned|strong="H8313" it with fire|strong="H0784";
And had taken the women|strong="H0802" captives|strong="H7617", that were therein: they slew|strong="H4191" not any|strong="H0376", either great|strong="H1419" or small|strong="H6996", but carried them away|strong="H5090", and went|strong="H3212" on their way|strong="H1870".
So David|strong="H1732" and his men|strong="H0582" came|strong="H0935" to the city|strong="H5892", and, behold, it was burned|strong="H8313" with fire|strong="H0784"; and their wives|strong="H0802", and their sons|strong="H1121", and their daughters|strong="H1323", were taken captives|strong="H7617".
Then David|strong="H1732" and the people|strong="H5971" that were with him lifted up|strong="H5375" their voice|strong="H6963" and wept|strong="H1058", until they had no more power|strong="H3581" to weep|strong="H1058".
And David’s|strong="H1732" two|strong="H8147" wives|strong="H0802" were taken captives|strong="H7617", Ahinoam|strong="H0293" the Jezreelitess|strong="H3159", and Abigail|strong="H0026" the wife|strong="H0802" of Nabal|strong="H5037" the Carmelite|strong="H3761".
And David|strong="H1732" was greatly|strong="H3966" distressed|strong="H3334"; for the people|strong="H5971" spake|strong="H0559" of stoning|strong="H5619" him, because the soul|strong="H5315" of all the people|strong="H5971" was grieved|strong="H4843", every man|strong="H0376" for his sons|strong="H1121" and for his daughters|strong="H1323": but David|strong="H1732" encouraged|strong="H2388" himself in the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* his God|strong="H0430".
And David|strong="H1732" said|strong="H0559" to Abiathar|strong="H0054" the priest|strong="H3548", Ahimelech’s|strong="H0288" son|strong="H1121", I pray thee, bring me hither|strong="H5066" the ephod|strong="H0646". And Abiathar|strong="H0054" brought|strong="H5066" thither the ephod|strong="H0646" to David|strong="H1732".
And David|strong="H1732" enquired|strong="H7592" at the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, saying|strong="H0559", Shall I pursue|strong="H7291" after|strong="H0310" this troop|strong="H1416"? shall I overtake|strong="H5381" them? And he answered|strong="H0559" him, Pursue|strong="H7291": for thou shalt surely|strong="H5381" overtake|strong="H5381" them, and without fail|strong="H5337" recover|strong="H5337" all.
So David|strong="H1732" went|strong="H3212", he and the six|strong="H8337" hundred|strong="H3967" men|strong="H0376" that were with him, and came|strong="H0935" to the brook|strong="H5158" Besor|strong="H1308", where those that were left behind|strong="H3498" stayed|strong="H5975".
But David|strong="H1732" pursued|strong="H7291", he and four|strong="H0702" hundred|strong="H3967" men|strong="H0376": for two hundred|strong="H3967" abode behind|strong="H5975", which were so faint|strong="H6296" that they could not go over|strong="H5674" the brook|strong="H5158" Besor|strong="H1308".
And they found|strong="H4672" an Egyptian|strong="H0376" in the field|strong="H7704", and brought|strong="H3947" him to David|strong="H1732", and gave|strong="H5414" him bread|strong="H3899", and he did eat|strong="H0398"; and they made him drink|strong="H8248" water|strong="H4325";
And they gave|strong="H5414" him a piece|strong="H6400" of a cake|strong="H1690" of figs, and two|strong="H8147" clusters of raisins|strong="H6778": and when he had eaten|strong="H0398", his spirit|strong="H7307" came again|strong="H7725" to him: for he had eaten|strong="H0398" no bread|strong="H3899", nor drunk|strong="H8354" any water|strong="H4325", three|strong="H7969" days|strong="H3117" and three|strong="H7969" nights|strong="H3915".
And David|strong="H1732" said|strong="H0559" unto him, To whom belongest thou? and whence art thou? And he said|strong="H0559", I am a young man|strong="H5288" of Egypt|strong="H4713", servant|strong="H5650" to an Amalekite|strong="H0376"; and my master|strong="H0113" left|strong="H5800" me, because three|strong="H7969" days|strong="H3117" agone I fell sick|strong="H2470".
We made an invasion|strong="H6584" upon the south|strong="H5045" of the Cherethites|strong="H3774", and upon the coast which belongeth to Judah|strong="H3063", and upon the south|strong="H5045" of Caleb|strong="H3612"; and we burned|strong="H8313" Ziklag|strong="H6860" with fire|strong="H0784".
And David|strong="H1732" said|strong="H0559" to him, Canst thou bring me down|strong="H3381" to this company|strong="H1416"? And he said|strong="H0559", Swear|strong="H7650" unto me by God|strong="H0430", that thou wilt neither kill|strong="H4191" me, nor|strong="H0518" deliver|strong="H5462" me into the hands|strong="H3027" of my master|strong="H0113", and I will bring thee down|strong="H3381" to this company|strong="H1416".
And when he had brought him down|strong="H3381", behold, they were spread abroad|strong="H5203" upon all|strong="H6440" the earth|strong="H0776", eating|strong="H0398" and drinking|strong="H8354", and dancing|strong="H2287", because of all the great|strong="H1419" spoil|strong="H7998" that they had taken|strong="H3947" out of the land|strong="H0776" of the Philistines|strong="H6430", and out of the land|strong="H0776" of Judah|strong="H3063".
And David|strong="H1732" smote|strong="H5221" them from the twilight|strong="H5399" even unto the evening|strong="H6153" of the next day|strong="H4283": and there escaped|strong="H4422" not a man|strong="H0376" of them, save four|strong="H0702" hundred|strong="H3967" young|strong="H5288" men|strong="H0376", which rode|strong="H7392" upon camels|strong="H1581", and fled|strong="H5127".
And David|strong="H1732" recovered|strong="H5337" all that the Amalekites|strong="H6002" had carried away|strong="H3947": and David|strong="H1732" rescued|strong="H5337" his two|strong="H8147" wives|strong="H0802".
And there was nothing lacking|strong="H5737" to them, neither|strong="H4480" small|strong="H6996" nor great|strong="H1419", neither sons|strong="H1121" nor daughters|strong="H1323", neither spoil|strong="H7998", nor any thing that they had taken|strong="H3947" to them: David|strong="H1732" recovered|strong="H7725" all.
And David|strong="H1732" took|strong="H3947" all the flocks|strong="H6629" and the herds|strong="H1241", which they drave|strong="H5090" before|strong="H6440" those|strong="H1931" other cattle|strong="H4735", and said|strong="H0559", This is David’s|strong="H1732" spoil|strong="H7998".
And David|strong="H1732" came|strong="H0935" to the two hundred|strong="H3967" men|strong="H0582", which were so faint|strong="H6296" that they could not follow|strong="H3212" David|strong="H1732", whom they had made also to abide|strong="H3427" at the brook|strong="H5158" Besor|strong="H1308": and they went forth|strong="H3318" to meet|strong="H7125" David|strong="H1732", and to meet|strong="H7125" the people|strong="H5971" that were with him: and when David|strong="H1732" came near|strong="H5066" to the people|strong="H5971", he saluted|strong="H7592" them.
Then answered|strong="H6030" all the wicked|strong="H7451" men|strong="H0376" and men of Belial|strong="H1100", of those|strong="H0582" that went|strong="H1980" with David|strong="H1732", and said|strong="H0559", Because they went|strong="H1980" not with us, we will not give|strong="H5414" them ought of the spoil|strong="H7998" that we have recovered|strong="H5337", save to every man|strong="H0376" his wife|strong="H0802" and his children|strong="H1121", that they may lead them away|strong="H5090", and depart|strong="H3212".
Then said|strong="H0559" David|strong="H1732", Ye shall not do so|strong="H6213", my brethren|strong="H0251", with that which the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath given|strong="H5414" us, who hath preserved|strong="H8104" us, and delivered|strong="H5414" the company|strong="H1416" that came|strong="H0935" against us into our hand|strong="H3027".
For who will hearken|strong="H8085" unto you in this matter|strong="H1697"? but as his part|strong="H2506" is that goeth down|strong="H3381" to the battle|strong="H4421", so shall his part|strong="H2506" be that tarrieth|strong="H3427" by the stuff|strong="H3627": they shall part|strong="H2505" alike|strong="H3162".
And it was so from that day|strong="H3117" forward|strong="H4605", that he made|strong="H7760" it a statute|strong="H2706" and an ordinance|strong="H4941" for Israel|strong="H3478" unto this day|strong="H3117".
And when David|strong="H1732" came|strong="H0935" to Ziklag|strong="H6860", he sent|strong="H7971" of the spoil|strong="H7998" unto the elders|strong="H2205" of Judah|strong="H3063", even to his friends|strong="H7453", saying|strong="H0559", Behold a present|strong="H1293" for you of the spoil|strong="H7998" of the enemies|strong="H0341" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*;
To \+w them|strong="H0834"\+w* which were in Beth-el|strong="H1008", and to them which were in south|strong="H5045" Ramoth|strong="H7418", and to them which were in Jattir|strong="H3492",
And to them which were in Aroer|strong="H6177", and to them which were in Siphmoth|strong="H8224", and to them which were in Eshtemoa|strong="H0851",
And to them which were in Rachal|strong="H7403", and to them which were in the cities|strong="H5892" of the Jerahmeelites|strong="H3397", and to them which were in the cities|strong="H5892" of the Kenites|strong="H7017",
And to them which were in Hormah|strong="H2767", and to them which were in Chor-ashan|strong="H3565", and to them which were in Athach|strong="H6269",
And to them which were in Hebron|strong="H2275", and to all the places|strong="H4725" where David|strong="H1732" himself and his men|strong="H0582" were wont to haunt|strong="H1980".
