Samuel 28

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

And it came to pass in those days|strong="H3117", that the Philistines|strong="H6430" gathered|strong="H6908" their armies|strong="H4264" together|strong="H6908" for warfare|strong="H6635", to fight|strong="H3898" with Israel|strong="H3478". And Achish|strong="H0397" said|strong="H0559" unto David|strong="H1732", Know|strong="H3045" thou assuredly|strong="H3045", that thou shalt go out|strong="H3318" with me to battle|strong="H4264", thou and thy men|strong="H0582".

And David|strong="H1732" said|strong="H0559" to Achish|strong="H0397", Surely|strong="H3651" thou shalt know|strong="H3045" what thy servant|strong="H5650" can do|strong="H6213". And Achish|strong="H0397" said|strong="H0559" to David|strong="H1732", Therefore will I make|strong="H7760" thee keeper|strong="H8104" of mine head|strong="H7218" for ever|strong="H3117".

Now Samuel|strong="H8050" was dead|strong="H4191", and all Israel|strong="H3478" had lamented|strong="H5594" him, and buried|strong="H6912" him in Ramah|strong="H7414", even in his own city|strong="H5892". And Saul|strong="H7586" had put away|strong="H5493" those that had familiar spirits|strong="H0178", and the wizards|strong="H3049", out of the land|strong="H0776".

And the Philistines|strong="H6430" gathered themselves together|strong="H6908", and came|strong="H0935" and pitched|strong="H2583" in Shunem|strong="H7766": and Saul|strong="H7586" gathered|strong="H6908" all Israel|strong="H3478" together|strong="H6908", and they pitched|strong="H2583" in Gilboa|strong="H1533".

And when Saul|strong="H7586" saw|strong="H7200" the host|strong="H4264" of the Philistines|strong="H6430", he was afraid|strong="H3372", and his heart|strong="H3820" greatly|strong="H3966" trembled|strong="H2729".

And when Saul|strong="H7586" enquired|strong="H7592" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* answered|strong="H6030" him not, neither by dreams|strong="H2472", nor by Urim|strong="H0224", nor by prophets|strong="H5030".

Then said|strong="H0559" Saul|strong="H7586" unto his servants|strong="H5650", Seek|strong="H1245" me a woman|strong="H0802" that hath|strong="H1172" a familiar spirit|strong="H0178", that I may go|strong="H3212" to her, and enquire|strong="H1875" of her. And his servants|strong="H5650" said|strong="H0559" to him, Behold, there is a woman|strong="H0802" that hath|strong="H1172" a familiar spirit|strong="H0178" at Endor|strong="H5874".

And Saul|strong="H7586" disguised|strong="H2664" himself, and put on|strong="H3847" other|strong="H0312" raiment|strong="H0899", and he went|strong="H3212", and two|strong="H8147" men|strong="H0582" with him, and they came|strong="H0935" to the woman|strong="H0802" by night|strong="H3915": and he said|strong="H0559", I pray thee, divine|strong="H7080" unto me by the familiar spirit|strong="H0178", and bring me him up|strong="H5927", whom I shall name|strong="H0559" unto thee.

And the woman|strong="H0802" said|strong="H0559" unto him, Behold, thou knowest|strong="H3045" what Saul|strong="H7586" hath done|strong="H6213", how he hath cut off|strong="H3772" those that have familiar spirits|strong="H0178", and the wizards|strong="H3049", out of the land|strong="H0776": wherefore then layest thou a snare|strong="H5367" for my life|strong="H5315", to cause me to die|strong="H4191"?

And Saul|strong="H7586" sware|strong="H7650" to her by the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, saying|strong="H0559", As the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* liveth|strong="H2416", there shall|strong="H0518" no punishment|strong="H5771" happen|strong="H7136" to thee for this thing|strong="H1697".

Then said|strong="H0559" the woman|strong="H0802", Whom shall I bring up|strong="H5927" unto thee? And he said|strong="H0559", Bring me up|strong="H5927" Samuel|strong="H8050".

And when the woman|strong="H0802" saw|strong="H7200" Samuel|strong="H8050", she cried|strong="H2199" with a loud|strong="H1419" voice|strong="H6963": and the woman|strong="H0802" spake|strong="H0559" to Saul|strong="H7586", saying|strong="H0559", Why hast thou deceived|strong="H7411" me? for thou art Saul|strong="H7586".

And the king|strong="H4428" said|strong="H0559" unto her, Be not afraid|strong="H3372": for what sawest|strong="H7200" thou? And the woman|strong="H0802" said|strong="H0559" unto Saul|strong="H7586", I saw|strong="H7200" gods|strong="H0430" ascending|strong="H5927" out of the earth|strong="H0776".

And he said|strong="H0559" unto her, What form|strong="H8389" is he of? And she said|strong="H0559", An old|strong="H2205" man|strong="H0376" cometh up|strong="H5927"; and he is covered|strong="H5844" with a mantle|strong="H4598". And Saul|strong="H7586" perceived|strong="H3045" that it was Samuel|strong="H8050", and he stooped|strong="H6915" with his face|strong="H0639" to the ground|strong="H0776", and bowed|strong="H7812" himself.

And Samuel|strong="H8050" said|strong="H0559" to Saul|strong="H7586", Why hast thou disquieted|strong="H7264" me, to bring me up|strong="H5927"? And Saul|strong="H7586" answered|strong="H0559", I am sore|strong="H3966" distressed|strong="H6887"; for the Philistines|strong="H6430" make war|strong="H3898" against me, and God|strong="H0430" is departed|strong="H5493" from me, and answereth|strong="H6030" me no more, neither by|strong="H3027" prophets|strong="H5030", nor by dreams|strong="H2472": therefore I have called|strong="H7121" thee, that thou mayest make known|strong="H3045" unto me what I shall do|strong="H6213".

Then said|strong="H0559" Samuel|strong="H8050", Wherefore then dost thou ask|strong="H7592" of me, seeing the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* is departed|strong="H5493" from thee, and is become thine enemy|strong="H6145"?

And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath done|strong="H6213" to him, as he spake|strong="H1696" by me|strong="H3027": for the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath rent|strong="H7167" the kingdom|strong="H4467" out of thine hand|strong="H3027", and given|strong="H5414" it to thy neighbour|strong="H7453", even to David|strong="H1732":

Because|strong="H0834" thou obeyedst|strong="H8085" not the voice|strong="H6963" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, nor executedst|strong="H6213" his fierce|strong="H2740" wrath|strong="H0639" upon Amalek|strong="H6002", therefore hath the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* done|strong="H6213" this thing|strong="H1697" unto thee this day|strong="H3117".

Moreover the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* will also deliver|strong="H5414" Israel|strong="H3478" with thee into the hand|strong="H3027" of the Philistines|strong="H6430": and to morrow|strong="H4279" shalt thou and thy sons|strong="H1121" be with me: the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* also shall deliver|strong="H5414" the host|strong="H4264" of Israel|strong="H3478" into the hand|strong="H3027" of the Philistines|strong="H6430".

Then Saul|strong="H7586" fell|strong="H5307" straightway|strong="H4116" all|strong="H4393" along|strong="H6967" on the earth|strong="H0776", and was sore|strong="H3966" afraid|strong="H3372", because of the words|strong="H1697" of Samuel|strong="H8050": and there was no strength|strong="H3581" in him; for he had eaten|strong="H0398" no bread|strong="H3899" all the day|strong="H3117", nor all the night|strong="H3915".

And the woman|strong="H0802" came|strong="H0935" unto Saul|strong="H7586", and saw|strong="H7200" that he was sore|strong="H3966" troubled|strong="H0926", and said|strong="H0559" unto him, Behold, thine handmaid|strong="H8198" hath obeyed|strong="H8085" thy voice|strong="H6963", and I have put|strong="H7760" my life|strong="H5315" in my hand|strong="H3709", and have hearkened|strong="H8085" unto thy words|strong="H1697" which thou spakest|strong="H1696" unto me.

Now therefore, I pray thee, hearken|strong="H8085" thou also unto the voice|strong="H6963" of thine handmaid|strong="H8198", and let me set|strong="H7760" a morsel|strong="H6595" of bread|strong="H3899" before|strong="H6440" thee; and eat|strong="H0398", that thou mayest have strength|strong="H3581", when thou goest|strong="H3212" on thy way|strong="H1870".

But he refused|strong="H3985", and said|strong="H0559", I will not eat|strong="H0398". But his servants|strong="H5650", together with the woman|strong="H0802", compelled|strong="H6555" him; and he hearkened|strong="H8085" unto their voice|strong="H6963". So he arose|strong="H6965" from the earth|strong="H0776", and sat|strong="H3427" upon the bed|strong="H4296".

And the woman|strong="H0802" had a fat|strong="H4770" calf|strong="H5695" in the house|strong="H1004"; and she hasted|strong="H4116", and killed|strong="H2076" it, and took|strong="H3947" flour|strong="H7058", and kneaded|strong="H3888" it, and did bake|strong="H0644" unleavened bread|strong="H4682" thereof:

And she brought|strong="H5066" it before|strong="H6440" Saul|strong="H7586", and before|strong="H6440" his servants|strong="H5650"; and they did eat|strong="H0398". Then they rose up|strong="H6965", and went away|strong="H3212" that night|strong="H3915".
