Samuel 27

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

And David|strong="H1732" said|strong="H0559" in his heart|strong="H3820", I shall now perish|strong="H5595" one|strong="H0259" day|strong="H3117" by the hand|strong="H3027" of Saul|strong="H7586": there is nothing better|strong="H2896" for me than that|strong="H3588" I should speedily|strong="H4422" escape|strong="H4422" into the land|strong="H0776" of the Philistines|strong="H6430"; and Saul|strong="H7586" shall despair|strong="H2976" of me, to seek|strong="H1245" me any more in any coast|strong="H1366" of Israel|strong="H3478": so shall I escape|strong="H4422" out of his hand|strong="H3027".

And David|strong="H1732" arose|strong="H6965", and he passed over|strong="H5674" with the six|strong="H8337" hundred|strong="H3967" men|strong="H0376" that were with him unto Achish|strong="H0397", the son|strong="H1121" of Maoch|strong="H4582", king|strong="H4428" of Gath|strong="H1661".

And David|strong="H1732" dwelt|strong="H3427" with Achish|strong="H0397" at Gath|strong="H1661", he and his men|strong="H0582", every man|strong="H0376" with his household|strong="H1004", even David|strong="H1732" with his two|strong="H8147" wives|strong="H0802", Ahinoam|strong="H0293" the Jezreelitess|strong="H3159", and Abigail|strong="H0026" the Carmelitess|strong="H3762", Nabal’s|strong="H5037" wife|strong="H0802".

And it was told|strong="H5046" Saul|strong="H7586" that David|strong="H1732" was fled|strong="H1272" to Gath|strong="H1661": and he sought|strong="H1245" no more again|strong="H3254" for him.

And David|strong="H1732" said|strong="H0559" unto Achish|strong="H0397", If I have now found|strong="H4672" grace|strong="H2580" in thine eyes|strong="H5869", let them give|strong="H5414" me a place|strong="H4725" in some|strong="H0259" town|strong="H5892" in the country|strong="H7704", that I may dwell|strong="H3427" there: for why should thy servant|strong="H5650" dwell|strong="H3427" in the royal|strong="H4467" city|strong="H5892" with thee?

Then Achish|strong="H0397" gave|strong="H5414" him Ziklag|strong="H6860" that day|strong="H3117": wherefore Ziklag|strong="H6860" pertaineth unto the kings|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063" unto this day|strong="H3117".

And the time|strong="H4557" that David|strong="H1732" dwelt|strong="H3427" in the country|strong="H7704" of the Philistines|strong="H6430" was a full year|strong="H3117" and four|strong="H0702" months|strong="H2320".

And David|strong="H1732" and his men|strong="H0582" went up|strong="H5927", and invaded|strong="H6584" the Geshurites|strong="H1651", and the Gezrites|strong="H1511", and the Amalekites|strong="H6003": for those|strong="H2007" nations were of old|strong="H5769" the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of the land|strong="H0776", as thou goest|strong="H0935" to Shur|strong="H7793", even unto the land|strong="H0776" of Egypt|strong="H4714".

And David|strong="H1732" smote|strong="H5221" the land|strong="H0776", and left neither man|strong="H0376" nor woman|strong="H0802" alive|strong="H2421", and took away|strong="H3947" the sheep|strong="H6629", and the oxen|strong="H1241", and the asses|strong="H2543", and the camels|strong="H1581", and the apparel|strong="H0899", and returned|strong="H7725", and came|strong="H0935" to Achish|strong="H0397".

And Achish|strong="H0397" said|strong="H0559", Whither|strong="H0408" have ye made a road|strong="H6584" to day|strong="H3117"? And David|strong="H1732" said|strong="H0559", Against the south|strong="H5045" of Judah|strong="H3063", and against the south|strong="H5045" of the Jerahmeelites|strong="H3397", and against the south|strong="H5045" of the Kenites|strong="H7017".

And David|strong="H1732" saved|strong="H2421" neither man|strong="H0376" nor woman|strong="H0802" alive|strong="H2421", to bring|strong="H0935" tidings to Gath|strong="H1661", saying|strong="H0559", Lest they should tell|strong="H5046" on us, saying|strong="H0559", So did|strong="H6213" David|strong="H1732", and so will be his manner|strong="H4941" all the while|strong="H3117" he dwelleth|strong="H3427" in the country|strong="H7704" of the Philistines|strong="H6430".

And Achish|strong="H0397" believed|strong="H0539" David|strong="H1732", saying|strong="H0559", He hath made his people|strong="H5971" Israel|strong="H3478" utterly|strong="H0887" to abhor|strong="H0887" him; therefore he shall be my servant|strong="H5650" for ever|strong="H5769".
