1 And, behold, there came|strong="H0935" a man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430" out of Judah|strong="H3063" by the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* unto Beth-el|strong="H1008": and Jeroboam|strong="H3379" stood|strong="H5975" by the altar|strong="H4196" to burn incense|strong="H6999".
2 And he cried|strong="H7121" against the altar|strong="H4196" in the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and said|strong="H0559", O altar|strong="H4196", altar|strong="H4196", thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; Behold, a child|strong="H1121" shall be born|strong="H3205" unto the house|strong="H1004" of David|strong="H1732", Josiah|strong="H2977" by name|strong="H8034"; and upon thee shall he offer|strong="H2076" the priests|strong="H3548" of the high places|strong="H1116" that burn incense|strong="H6999" upon thee, and men’s|strong="H0120" bones|strong="H6106" shall be burnt|strong="H8313" upon thee.
3 And he gave|strong="H5414" a sign|strong="H4159" the same day|strong="H3117", saying|strong="H0559", This is the sign|strong="H4159" which the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath spoken|strong="H1696"; Behold, the altar|strong="H4196" shall be rent|strong="H7167", and the ashes|strong="H1880" that are upon it shall be poured out|strong="H8210".
4 And it came to pass, when king|strong="H4428" Jeroboam|strong="H3379" heard|strong="H8085" the saying|strong="H1697" of the man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430", which had cried|strong="H7121" against the altar|strong="H4196" in Beth-el|strong="H1008", that he put forth|strong="H7971" his hand|strong="H3027" from the altar|strong="H4196", saying|strong="H0559", Lay hold|strong="H8610" on him. And his hand|strong="H3027", which he put forth|strong="H7971" against him, dried up|strong="H3001", so that he could|strong="H3201" not pull it in again|strong="H7725" to him.
5 The altar|strong="H4196" also was rent|strong="H7167", and the ashes|strong="H1880" poured out|strong="H8210" from the altar|strong="H4196", according to the sign|strong="H4159" which the man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430" had given|strong="H5414" by the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
6 And the king|strong="H4428" answered|strong="H6030" and said|strong="H0559" unto the man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430", Intreat|strong="H2470" now the face|strong="H6440" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* thy God|strong="H0430", and pray|strong="H6419" for me, that my hand|strong="H3027" may be restored me again|strong="H7725". And the man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430" besought|strong="H2470" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and the king’s|strong="H4428" hand|strong="H3027" was restored him again|strong="H7725", and became as it was before|strong="H7223".
7 And the king|strong="H4428" said|strong="H1696" unto the man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430", Come|strong="H0935" home|strong="H1004" with me, and refresh|strong="H5582" thyself, and I will give|strong="H5414" thee a reward|strong="H4991".
8 And the man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430" said|strong="H0559" unto the king|strong="H4428", If thou wilt give|strong="H5414" me half|strong="H2677" thine house|strong="H1004", I will not go in|strong="H0935" with thee, neither will I eat|strong="H0398" bread|strong="H3899" nor drink|strong="H8354" water|strong="H4325" in this place|strong="H4725":
9 For so was it charged|strong="H6680" me by the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, saying|strong="H0559", Eat|strong="H0398" no bread|strong="H3899", nor drink|strong="H8354" water|strong="H4325", nor turn again|strong="H7725" by the same way|strong="H1870" that thou camest|strong="H1980".
10 So he went|strong="H3212" another|strong="H0312" way|strong="H1870", and returned|strong="H7725" not by the way|strong="H1870" that he came|strong="H0935" to Beth-el|strong="H1008".
11 Now there dwelt|strong="H3427" an|strong="H0259" old|strong="H2205" prophet|strong="H5030" in Beth-el|strong="H1008"; and his sons|strong="H1121" came|strong="H0935" and told|strong="H5608" him all the works|strong="H4639" that the man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430" had done|strong="H6213" that day|strong="H3117" in Beth-el|strong="H1008": the words|strong="H1697" which he had spoken|strong="H1696" unto the king|strong="H4428", them they told|strong="H5608" also to their father|strong="H0001".
12 And their father|strong="H0001" said|strong="H1696" unto them, What way|strong="H1870" went|strong="H1980" he? For his sons|strong="H1121" had seen|strong="H7200" what|strong="H0335" way|strong="H1870" the man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430" went|strong="H1980", which came|strong="H0935" from Judah|strong="H3063".
13 And he said|strong="H0559" unto his sons|strong="H1121", Saddle|strong="H2280" me the ass|strong="H2543". So they saddled|strong="H2280" him the ass|strong="H2543": and he rode|strong="H7392" thereon,
14 And went|strong="H3212" after|strong="H0310" the man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430", and found|strong="H4672" him sitting|strong="H3427" under an oak|strong="H0424": and he said|strong="H0559" unto him, Art thou the man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430" that camest|strong="H0935" from Judah|strong="H3063"? And he said|strong="H0559", I am.
15 Then he said|strong="H0559" unto him, Come|strong="H3212" home|strong="H1004" with me, and eat|strong="H0398" bread|strong="H3899".
16 And he said|strong="H0559", I may|strong="H3201" not return|strong="H7725" with thee, nor go in|strong="H0935" with thee: neither will I eat|strong="H0398" bread|strong="H3899" nor drink|strong="H8354" water|strong="H4325" with thee in this place|strong="H4725":
17 For it was said|strong="H1697" to me by the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, Thou shalt eat|strong="H0398" no bread|strong="H3899" nor drink|strong="H8354" water|strong="H4325" there, nor turn again|strong="H7725" to go|strong="H3212" by the way|strong="H1870" that thou camest|strong="H1980".
18 He said|strong="H0559" unto him, I am a prophet|strong="H5030" also as thou art; and an angel|strong="H4397" spake|strong="H1696" unto me by the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, saying|strong="H0559", Bring him back|strong="H7725" with thee into thine house|strong="H1004", that he may eat|strong="H0398" bread|strong="H3899" and drink|strong="H8354" water|strong="H4325". But he lied|strong="H3584" unto him.
19 So he went back|strong="H7725" with him, and did eat|strong="H0398" bread|strong="H3899" in his house|strong="H1004", and drank|strong="H8354" water|strong="H4325".
20 And it came to pass, as they sat|strong="H3427" at the table|strong="H7979", that the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* came unto the prophet|strong="H5030" that brought him back|strong="H7725":
21 And he cried|strong="H7121" unto the man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430" that came|strong="H0935" from Judah|strong="H3063", saying|strong="H0559", Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, Forasmuch as|strong="H3282" thou hast disobeyed|strong="H4784" the mouth|strong="H6310" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and hast not kept|strong="H8104" the commandment|strong="H4687" which the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* thy God|strong="H0430" commanded|strong="H6680" thee,
22 But camest back|strong="H7725", and hast eaten|strong="H0398" bread|strong="H3899" and drunk|strong="H8354" water|strong="H4325" in the place|strong="H4725", of the which the \+nd Lord\+nd* did say|strong="H1696" to thee, Eat|strong="H0398" no bread|strong="H3899", and drink|strong="H8354" no water|strong="H4325"; thy carcase|strong="H5038" shall not come|strong="H0935" unto the sepulchre|strong="H6913" of thy fathers|strong="H0001".
23 And it came to pass, after|strong="H0310" he had eaten|strong="H0398" bread|strong="H3899", and after|strong="H0310" he had drunk|strong="H8354", that he saddled|strong="H2280" for him the ass|strong="H2543", to wit, for the prophet|strong="H5030" whom he had brought back|strong="H7725".
24 And when he was gone|strong="H3212", a lion|strong="H0738" met|strong="H4672" him by the way|strong="H1870", and slew|strong="H4191" him: and his carcase|strong="H5038" was cast|strong="H7993" in the way|strong="H1870", and the ass|strong="H2543" stood|strong="H5975" by|strong="H0681" it, the lion|strong="H0738" also stood|strong="H5975" by the carcase|strong="H5038".
25 And, behold, men|strong="H0582" passed by|strong="H5674", and saw|strong="H7200" the carcase|strong="H5038" cast|strong="H7993" in the way|strong="H1870", and the lion|strong="H0738" standing|strong="H5975" by|strong="H0681" the carcase|strong="H5038": and they came|strong="H0935" and told|strong="H1696" it in the city|strong="H5892" where the old|strong="H2205" prophet|strong="H5030" dwelt|strong="H3427".
26 And when the prophet|strong="H5030" that brought him back|strong="H7725" from the way|strong="H1870" heard|strong="H8085" thereof, he said|strong="H0559", It is the man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430", who was disobedient|strong="H4784" unto the word|strong="H6310" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*: therefore the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath delivered|strong="H5414" him unto the lion|strong="H0738", which hath torn|strong="H7665" him, and slain|strong="H4191" him, according to the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, which he spake|strong="H1696" unto him.
27 And he spake|strong="H1696" to his sons|strong="H1121", saying|strong="H0559", Saddle|strong="H2280" me the ass|strong="H2543". And they saddled|strong="H2280" him.
28 And he went|strong="H3212" and found|strong="H4672" his carcase|strong="H5038" cast|strong="H7993" in the way|strong="H1870", and the ass|strong="H2543" and the lion|strong="H0738" standing|strong="H5975" by|strong="H0681" the carcase|strong="H5038": the lion|strong="H0738" had not eaten|strong="H0398" the carcase|strong="H5038", nor torn|strong="H7665" the ass|strong="H2543".
29 And the prophet|strong="H5030" took up|strong="H5375" the carcase|strong="H5038" of the man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430", and laid|strong="H3240" it upon the ass|strong="H2543", and brought it back|strong="H7725": and the old|strong="H2205" prophet|strong="H5030" came|strong="H0935" to the city|strong="H5892", to mourn|strong="H5594" and to bury|strong="H6912" him.
30 And he laid|strong="H3240" his carcase|strong="H5038" in his own grave|strong="H6913"; and they mourned|strong="H5594" over him, saying, Alas|strong="H1945", my brother|strong="H0251"!
31 And it came to pass, after|strong="H0310" he had buried|strong="H6912" him, that he spake|strong="H0559" to his sons|strong="H1121", saying|strong="H0559", When I am dead|strong="H4191", then bury|strong="H6912" me in the sepulchre|strong="H6913" wherein the man|strong="H0376" of God|strong="H0430" is buried|strong="H6912"; lay|strong="H3240" my bones|strong="H6106" beside|strong="H0681" his bones|strong="H6106":
32 For the saying|strong="H1697" which he cried|strong="H7121" by the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* against the altar|strong="H4196" in Beth-el|strong="H1008", and against all the houses|strong="H1004" of the high places|strong="H1116" which are in the cities|strong="H5892" of Samaria|strong="H8111", shall surely come to pass.
33 After|strong="H0310" this thing|strong="H1697" Jeroboam|strong="H3379" returned|strong="H7725" not from his evil|strong="H7451" way|strong="H1870", but made|strong="H6213" again|strong="H7725" of the lowest|strong="H7098" of the people|strong="H5971" priests|strong="H3548" of the high places|strong="H1116": whosoever would|strong="H2655", he consecrated|strong="H4390" him, and he became one of the priests|strong="H3548" of the high places|strong="H1116".
34 And this thing|strong="H1697" became sin|strong="H2403" unto the house|strong="H1004" of Jeroboam|strong="H3379", even to cut it off|strong="H3582", and to destroy|strong="H8045" it from off the face|strong="H6440" of the earth|strong="H0127".
