1 Ephraim feedeth on the wind, and followeth the burning heat: all the day long he multiplied lies and desolation: and he hath made a covenant with the Assyrians, and carried oil into Egypt.
1 O povo de Israel se alimenta de vento; corre atrás do vento leste o dia todo. Acumula mentiras e violência, faz acordos com a Assíria e, ao mesmo tempo, envia azeite para comprar o apoio do Egito.
2 Therefore there is a judgment of the Lord with Juda, and a visitation for Jacob: he will render to him according to his ways, and according to his devices.
2 Agora o S enhor apresenta acusações contra Judá; está prestes a castigar Jacó e lhe retribuir por tudo que fez.
3 In the womb he supplanted his brother: and by his strength he had success with an angel.
3 Ainda no ventre, Jacó agarrou o calcanhar de seu irmão; quando se tornou homem, lutou com Deus.
4 And he prevailed over the angel, and was strengthened: he wept, and made supplication to him: he found him in Bethel, and there he spoke with us.
4 Sim, lutou com o anjo e venceu; chorou e suplicou-lhe que o abençoasse. Ali em Betel, encontrou Deus, e Deus falou com ele.
5 Even the Lord the God of hosts, the Lord is his memorial.

6 Therefore turn thou to thy God : keep mercy and judgment, and hope in thy God always.
6 Portanto, voltem para seu Deus; pratiquem o amor e a justiça e confiem sempre nele.
7 He is like Chanaan, there is a deceitful balance in his hand, he hath loved oppression.
7 O povo, no entanto, se comporta como comerciantes astutos, que usam balanças desonestas e gostam de explorar.
8 And Ephraim said: But yet I am be- come rich, I have found me an idol: all my labours shall not find me the iniquity that I have committed.
8 Israel diz: “Fiquei rico! Fiz fortuna com meu próprio esforço! Ninguém descobriu que enganei outros; meu histórico é impecável!”.
9 And I that am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt, will yet cause thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the feast.
9 “Mas eu sou o S enhor , seu Deus, que os tirou do Egito. Eu os farei morar em tendas outra vez, como fazem em feriados sagrados.
10 And I have spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and I have used similitudes by the ministry of the prophets.
10 Enviei meus profetas para adverti-los com muitas visões e parábolas.”
11 If Galaad be an idol, then in vain were they in Galgal offering sacrifices with bullocks: for their altars also are as heaps in the furrows of the field.
11 Mas os habitantes de Gileade não valem nada, por causa de seu pecado. Em Gilgal também sacrificam bois; seus altares são enfileirados como montes de pedras à beira de um campo arado.
12 Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and was a keeper for a wife.
12 Jacó fugiu para a terra de Arã e ali cuidou
13 But the Lord by a prophet brought Israel out of Egypt: and he was pre- served by a prophet.
13 Então, por meio de um profeta, o S e, por meio de um profeta, eles foram protegidos.
14 Ephraim hath provoked me to wrath with his bitterness, and his blood shall come upon him, and his Lord will render his reproach unto him.
14 Mas o povo de Israel provocou o Senhor amargamente. Agora ele os sentenciará à morte como pagamento por seus pecados.
