1 And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the Lord: and he delivered them into the hand of Madian seven years.
1 Porém os filhos de Israel fizeram o que era mau aos olhos do SENHOR; e o SENHOR os deu nas mãos dos midianitas por sete anos.
2 — ausente —
2 E, prevalecendo a mão dos midianitas sobre Israel, fizeram os filhos de Israel para si, por causa dos midianitas, as covas que estão nos montes, as cavernas e as fortificações.
3 And they were grievously oppressed by them. And they made themselves dens and eaves in the mountains, and strong holds to resist.
3 Porque sucedia que, semeando Israel, os midianitas e os amalequitas, e também os do oriente, contra ele subiam.
4 And when Israel had sown, Madian and Amalec, and the rest of the eastern nations came up:
4 E punham-se contra ele em campo, e destruíam os frutos da terra, até chegarem a Gaza; e não deixavam mantimento em Israel, nem ovelhas, nem bois, nem jumentos.
5 And pitching their tents among them, wasted all things as they were in the blade even to the entrance of Gaza: and they left nothing at all in Israel for sustenance of life, nor sheep, nor oxen, nor asses.
5 Porque subiam com os seus gados e tendas; vinham como gafanhotos, em grande multidão que não se podia contar, nem a eles nem aos seus camelos; e entravam na terra, para a destruir.
6 For they and all their flocks came with their tents, and like locusts filled all places, an innumerable multitude of men, and of camels, wasting whatsoever they touched.
6 Assim Israel empobreceu muito pela presença dos midianitas; então os filhos de Israel clamaram ao Senhor.
7 And Israel was humbled exceedingly in the sight of Madian.
7 E sucedeu que, clamando os filhos de Israel ao Senhor por causa dos midianitas,
8 And he cried to the Lord desiring help against the Madianites.
8 Enviou o Senhor um profeta aos filhos de Israel, que lhes disse: Assim diz o Senhor Deus de Israel: Do Egito eu vos fiz subir, e vos tirei da casa da servidão;
9 And he sent unto them a prophet, and he spoke: Thus saith the Lord the God of Israel: I made you to come up out of Egypt, and brought you out of the house of bondage,
9 E vos livrei da mão dos egípcios, e da mão de todos quantos vos oprimiam; e os expulsei de diante de vós, e a vós dei a sua terra.
10 And delivered you out of the hands of the Egyptians, and of all the enemies that afflicted you: and I cast them out at your coming in, and gave you their land.
10 E vos disse: Eu sou o Senhor vosso Deus; não temais aos deuses dos amorreus, em cuja terra habitais; mas não destes ouvidos à minha voz.

11 Então o anjo do Senhor veio, e assentou-se debaixo do carvalho que está em Ofra, que pertencia a Joás, abiezrita; e Gideão, seu filho, estava malhando o trigo no lagar, para o salvar dos midianitas.
12 And an angel of the Lord came, and sat under an oak, that was in Ephra, and belonged to Joas the father of the family of Ezri. And when Gedeon his son was threshing and cleansing wheat by the winepress, to flee from Madian,
12 Então o anjo do Senhor lhe apareceu, e lhe disse: O Senhor é contigo, homem valoroso.
13 The angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said: The Lord is with thee, O most valiant of men.
13 Mas Gideão lhe respondeu: Ai, Senhor meu, se o Senhor é conosco, por que tudo isto nos sobreveio? E que é feito de todas as suas maravilhas que nossos pais nos contaram, dizendo: Não nos fez o Senhor subir do Egito? Porém agora o Senhor nos desamparou, e nos deu nas mãos dos midianitas.
14 And Gedeon said to him: I beseech thee, my lord, if the Lord be with us, why have these evils fallen upon us? Where are his miracles, which our fathers have told us of, saying: The Lord brought us Out of Egypt? but now the Lord hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the bands of Madian.
14 Então o Senhor olhou para ele, e disse: Vai nesta tua força, e livrarás a Israel das mãos dos midianitas; porventura não te enviei eu?
15 And the Lord looked upon him, and said: Go in this thy strength, and then shalt deliver Israel out of the hand of Madian: know that I have sent thee.
15 E ele lhe disse: Ai, Senhor meu, com que livrarei a Israel? Eis que a minha família é a mais pobre em Manassés, e eu o menor na casa de meu pai.
16 He answered and said: I beseech thee, my lord, wherewith shall I deliver Israel? Behold my family is the meanest in Manasses, and I am the least in my father's house.
16 E o Senhor lhe disse: Porquanto eu hei de ser contigo, tu ferirás aos midianitas como se fossem um só homem.
17 And the Lord said to him: I will be with thee: and thou shalt cut off Madian as one man.
17 E ele disse: Se agora tenho achado graça aos teus olhos, dá-me um sinal de que és tu que falas comigo.
18 And he said: If I have found grace before thee, give me a sign that it is thou that speakest to me,
18 Rogo-te que daqui não te apartes, até que eu volte e traga o meu presente, e o ponha perante ti. E disse: Eu esperarei até que voltes.
19 And depart not hence, till I return to thee, and bring a sacrifice, and offer it to thee. And he answered: I will wait thy coming.
19 E entrou Gideão e preparou um cabrito e pães ázimos de um efa de farinha; a carne pôs num cesto e o caldo pôs numa panela; e trouxe-lho até debaixo do carvalho, e lho ofereceu.
20 So Gedeon went in, and boiled a kid, and made unleavened loaves of a measure of flour: and putting the flesh in a basket, and the broth of the flesh into a pot, he carried all under the oak, and presented to him.
20 Porém o anjo de Deus lhe disse: Toma a carne e os pães ázimos, e põe-nos sobre esta penha e derrama-lhe o caldo. E assim fez.
21 And the angel of the Lord said to him: Take the flesh and the unleavened loaves, and lay them upon that rock, and pour out the broth thereon. And when he had done so,
21 E o anjo do Senhor estendeu a ponta do cajado, que estava na sua mão, e tocou a carne e os pães ázimos; então subiu o fogo da penha, e consumiu a carne e os pães ázimos; e o anjo do Senhor desapareceu de seus olhos.
22 The angel of the Lord put forth the tip of the rod, which he held in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened loaves: and there arose a fire from the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened loaves: and the angel of the Lord vanished out of his sight.
22 Então viu Gideão que era o anjo do SENHOR e disse: Ah, Senhor DEUS, pois vi o anjo do SENHOR face a face.
23 And Gedeon seeing that it was the angel of the Lord, said: Alas, my Lord God: for I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face.
23 Porém o Senhor lhe disse: Paz seja contigo; não temas; não morrerás.
24 And the Lord said to him: Peace be with thee: fear not, thou shalt not die.
24 Então Gideão edificou ali um altar ao SENHOR, e chamou-lhe: O SENHOR É PAZ; e ainda até o dia de hoje está em Ofra dos abiezritas.
25 And Gedeon built there an altar to the Lord, and called it the Lord's peace, until this present day. And when he was yet in Ephra, which is of the family of Ezri,
25 E aconteceu naquela mesma noite, que o Senhor lhe disse: Toma o boi que pertence a teu pai, a saber, o segundo boi de sete anos, e derruba o altar de Baal, que é de teu pai; e corta o bosque que está ao pé dele.
26 That night the Lord said to him: Take a bullock of thy father's, and another bullock of seven years, and thou shalt destroy the altar of Baal, which is thy father's: and cut down the grove that is about the altar:
26 E edifica ao Senhor teu Deus um altar no cume deste lugar forte, num lugar conveniente; e toma o segundo boi, e o oferecerás em holocausto com a lenha que cortares do bosque.
27 And thou shalt build an altar to the Lord thy God in the top of this rock, whereupon thou didst lay the sacrifice before: and thou shalt take the second bullock, and shalt offer a holocaust upon a pile of the wood, which thou shalt cut down out of the grove.
27 Então Gideão tomou dez homens dentre os seus servos, e fez como o Senhor lhe dissera; e sucedeu que, temendo ele a casa de seu pai, e os homens daquela cidade, não o fez de dia, mas fê-lo de noite.
28 Then Gedeon taking ten men of his servants, did as the Lord had commanded him. But fearing his father's house, and the men of that city, he would not do it by day, but did all by night.
28 Levantando-se, pois, os homens daquela cidade, de madrugada, eis que estava o altar de Baal derrubado, e o bosque estava ao pé dele, cortado; e o segundo boi oferecido no altar que fora edificado.
29 And when the men of that town were risen in the morning, they saw the altar of Baal destroyed, and the grove cut down, and the second bullock laid upon the altar, which then was built.
29 E uns aos outros disseram: Quem fez esta coisa? E, esquadrinhando, e inquirindo, disseram: Gideão, o filho de Joás, fez esta coisa.
30 And they said one to another: Who hath done this? And when they inquired for the author of the fact, it was said: Gedeon the son of Joas did all this.
30 Então os homens daquela cidade disseram a Joás: Tira para fora a teu filho; para que morra; pois derribou o altar de Baal, e cortou o bosque que estava ao pé dele.
31 And they said to Joas: Bring out thy son hither, that he may die: because he hath destroyed the altar of Baal, and hath cut down his grove.
31 Porém Joás disse a todos os que se puseram contra ele: Contendereis vós por Baal? Livrá-lo-eis vós? Qualquer que por ele contender ainda esta manhã será morto; se é deus, por si mesmo contenda; pois derrubaram o seu altar.
32 He answered them: Are you the avengers of Baal, that you fight for him? he that is his adversary, let him die before to morrow light appear: if he be a god, let him revenge himself on him that hath cast down his altar.
32 Por isso naquele dia lhe chamaram Jerubaal, dizendo: Baal contenda contra ele, pois derrubou o seu altar.
33 From that day Gedeon was called Jerobaal, because Joss had said: Let Baal revenge himself on him that hath cast down his altar.
33 E todos os midianitas e amalequitas, e os filhos do oriente se ajuntaram, e passaram, e acamparam no vale de Jizreel.
34 Now all Madian, and Amalec, and the eastern people were gathered together, and passing over the Jordan, camped in the valley of Jezrael.
34 Então o Espírito do SENHOR revestiu a Gideão, o qual tocou a buzina, e os abiezritas se ajuntaram após ele.
35 But the spirit of the Lord came upon Gedeon, and be sounded the trumpet and called together the house of Abiezer, to follow him.
35 E enviou mensageiros por toda a tribo de Manassés, que também se ajuntou após ele; também enviou mensageiros a Aser, e a Zebulom, e a Naftali, que saíram-lhe ao encontro.
36 And he sent messengers into all Manasses, and they also followed him: and other messengers into Aser and Zabulon and Nephtali, and they came to meet him.
36 E disse Gideão a Deus: Se hás de livrar a Israel por minha mão, como disseste,
37 And Gedeon said to God: If thou wilt save Israel by my hand, as thou hast said,
37 Eis que eu porei um velo de lã na eira; se o orvalho estiver somente no velo, e toda a terra ficar seca, então conhecerei que hás de livrar a Israel por minha mão, como disseste.
38 I will put this fleece of wool on the floor: if there be dew on the fleece only, and it be dry on all the ground beside, I, shall know that by my hand, as thou hast said, thou wilt deliver Israel.
38 E assim sucedeu; porque no outro dia se levantou de madrugada, e apertou o velo; e do orvalho que espremeu do velo, encheu uma taça de água.
39 And it was so. And rising before day wringing the fleece, he filled a vessel with the dew.
39 E disse Gideão a Deus: Não se acenda contra mim a tua ira, se ainda falar só esta vez; rogo-te que só esta vez faça a prova com o velo; rogo-te que só o velo fique seco, e em toda a terra haja o orvalho.
40 And he said again to God: let not thy wrath be kindled against me if I try once more, seeking a sign in the fleece. I pray that the fleece only may be dry, and all the ground wet with dew.
40 E Deus assim fez naquela noite; pois só o velo ficou seco, e sobre toda a terra havia orvalho.
41 And God did that night as he had requested: and it was dry on the fleece only, and there was dew on all the ground.
