1 That thou wouldst rend the heavens, and wouldst come down: the mountains would melt away at thy presence.
1 Ah! Se fendesses os céus e descesses! Se os montes tremessem na tua presença,
2 They would melt as at the burning of fire, the waters would burn with fire, that thy name might be made known to thy enemies: that the nations might tremble at thy presence.
2 como quando o fogo acende os gravetos, como quando faz ferver a água, para fazeres notório o teu nome aos teus adversários, e para que as nações tremam diante de ti!
3 When thou shalt do wonderful things, we shall not bear them: thou didst come down, and at thy presence the mountains melted away.
3 Quando fizeste coisas terríveis, que nós nem esperávamos, desceste, e os montes tremeram diante de ti.
4 From the beginning of the world they have not heard, nor perceived with the ears: the eye hath not seen, O God, besides thee, what things thou hast prepared for them that wait for thee.
4 Porque desde a antiguidade não se ouviu, nem com os ouvidos se percebeu, nem com os olhos se viu Deus além de ti, que trabalha para aquele que nele espera.
5 Thou hast met him that rejoiceth, and doth justice: in thy ways they shall remember thee: behold thou art angry, and we have sinned: in them we have been always, and we shall be saved.
5 Tu sais ao encontro daquele que com alegria pratica a justiça, daqueles que se lembram de ti nos teus caminhos. Eis que te iraste, porque pecamos. Por muito tempo temos pecado; como, então, seremos salvos?
6 And we are all become as one unclean, and all our justices as the rag of a menstruous woman: and we have all fallen as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
6 Todos nós somos como o imundo, e todas as nossas justiças são como trapo da imundícia. Todos nós murchamos como a folha; e as nossas iniquidades nos arrastam como um vento.
7 There is none that calleth upon thy name: that riseth up, and taketh hold of thee: thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast crushed us in the hand of our iniquity.
7 Não há ninguém que invoque o teu nome, que se disponha a apegar-se a ti. Porque escondes de nós o teu rosto e nos consomes por causa das nossas iniquidades.
8 And now, O Lord, thou art our father, and we are clay: and thou art our maker, and we all are the works of thy hands.
8 Mas agora, Senhor , tu és o nosso Pai. Nós somos o barro, e tu és o nosso oleiro; e todos nós somos obra das tuas mãos.
9 Be not very angry, O Lord, and remember no longer our iniquity: behold, see we are all thy people.
9 Não te enfureças tanto, ó Senhor , nem te lembres para sempre da nossa iniquidade. Olha para nós, por favor, pois todos nós somos o teu povo.
10 The city of thy sanctuary is become a desert, Sion is made a desert, Jerusalem is desolate.
10 As tuas santas cidades estão desertas. Sião virou um deserto; Jerusalém está arrasada.
11 The house of our holiness, and of our glory, where our fathers praised thee, is burnt with fire, and all our lovely things are turned into ruins.
11 O nosso templo santo e glorioso, em que nossos pais te louvavam, foi queimado; todas as nossas coisas preciosas se tornaram em ruínas.
12 Wilt thou refrain thyself, O Lord, upon these things, wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us vehemently?
12 Diante de tais calamidades, como podes te conter, ó Ficarias calado e nos afligirias ainda mais?
