1 And Paul, fixing his eyes on the council, said, Brethren, I have walked in all good conscience with God unto this day.
1 Então Paulo olhou firmemente para os membros do Conselho e disse: — Meus irmãos, tenho vivido até hoje com a consciência limpa diante de Deus.
2 But the high priest Ananias ordered those standing by him to smite his mouth.
2 Mas Ananias, o Grande Sacerdote , mandou que os homens que estavam perto de Paulo dessem um tapa na boca dele.
3 Then Paul said to him, God will smite thee, whited wall. And *thou*, dost thou sit judging me according to the law, and breaking the law commandest me to be smitten?
3 Aí Paulo disse a Ananias: — Hipócrita, Deus o castigará por isso! Você está sentado aí para me julgar de acordo com a
4 And those that stood by said, Dost thou rail against the high priest of God?
4 Os homens que estavam perto de Paulo perguntaram: — Você está insultando o Grande Sacerdote, o
5 And Paul said, I was not conscious, brethren, that he was high priest; for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evilly of the ruler of thy people.
5 Paulo respondeu: — Meus irmãos, eu não sabia que ele é o Grande Sacerdote. Pois as
6 But Paul, knowing that the one part {of them} were of the Sadducees and the other of the Pharisees, cried out in the council, Brethren, *I* am a Pharisee, son of Pharisees: *I* am judged concerning the hope and resurrection of {the} dead.
6 Quando Paulo percebeu que alguns do Conselho eram do partido dos saduceus e outros do partido dos fariseus , disse bem alto: — Meus irmãos, eu sou fariseu e filho de fariseus. Estou aqui sendo julgado porque creio que os mortos vão ressuscitar.
7 And when he had spoken this, there was a tumult of the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the multitude was divided.
7 Assim que ele disse isso, os fariseus e os saduceus começaram a discutir, e o Conselho se dividiu.
8 For Sadducees say there is no resurrection, nor angel, nor spirit; but Pharisees confess both of them.
8 É que os saduceus não creem que os mortos vão ressuscitar, nem que existem anjos ou espíritos; mas os fariseus creem nessas coisas.
9 And there was a great clamour, and the scribes of the Pharisees' part rising up contended, saying, We find nothing evil in this man; and if a spirit has spoken to him, or an angel...
9 E assim a gritaria aumentou ainda mais. Então alguns mestres da Lei que pertenciam ao partido dos fariseus se levantaram e protestaram. Eles disseram: — Não vemos nenhum mal neste homem. Pode ser mesmo que um anjo ou um espírito tenha falado com ele.
10 And a great tumult having arisen, the chiliarch, fearing lest Paul should have been torn in pieces by them, commanded the troop to come down and take him by force from the midst of them, and to bring {him} into the fortress.
10 A briga chegou a tal ponto, que o comandante ficou com medo de que Paulo fosse despedaçado por eles. Por isso mandou os guardas descerem para tirar Paulo do meio deles e o levar de volta para a fortaleza.
11 But the following night the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good courage; for as thou hast testified the things concerning me at Jerusalem, so thou must bear witness at Rome also.
11 Na noite seguinte o Senhor Jesus apareceu a Paulo e disse:
12 And when it was day, the Jews, having banded together, put themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they should kill Paul.
12 Na manhã seguinte alguns judeus se ajuntaram e juraram que não iam comer nem beber nada enquanto não matassem Paulo.
13 And they were more than forty who had joined together in this oath;
13 Os homens que combinaram fazer isso eram mais de quarenta.
14 and they went to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have cursed ourselves with a curse to taste nothing until we kill Paul.
14 Eles foram falar com os chefes dos sacerdotes e com os líderes do povo e disseram: — Nós fizemos o seguinte juramento: “Que Deus nos amaldiçoe se comermos ou bebermos qualquer coisa enquanto não matarmos Paulo.”
15 Now therefore do ye with the council make a representation to the chiliarch so that he may bring him down to you, as about to determine more precisely what concerns him, and we, before he draws near, are ready to kill him.
15 Agora vocês e o Conselho Superior , mandem pedir ao comandante que traga Paulo aqui. Digam que estão querendo examinar melhor o caso dele. Então, antes que ele chegue, nós estaremos prontos para matá-lo.
16 But Paul's sister's son, having heard of the lying in wait, came and entered into the fortress and reported {it} to Paul.
16 Mas o filho da irmã de Paulo ficou sabendo do plano; ele entrou na fortaleza e contou tudo a Paulo.
17 And Paul, having called one of the centurions, said, Take this youth to the chiliarch, for he has something to report to him.
17 Então Paulo chamou um dos oficiais e disse: — Leve este moço ao comandante. Ele tem uma coisa para contar a ele.
18 He therefore, having taken him with {him}, led him to the chiliarch, and says, The prisoner Paul called me to {him} and asked me to lead this youth to thee, who has something to say to thee.
18 O oficial levou o moço ao comandante e disse: — Aquele preso que se chama Paulo mandou me chamar e pediu que eu trouxesse este moço porque ele tem uma informação para o senhor.
19 And the chiliarch having taken him by the hand, and having gone apart in private, inquired, What is it that thou hast to report to me?
19 O comandante pegou o moço pela mão, levou-o para um lado e perguntou: — O que é que você tem para me contar?
20 And he said, The Jews have agreed together to make a request to thee, that thou mayest bring Paul down to-morrow into the council, as about to inquire something more precise concerning him.
20 Ele respondeu: — Alguns judeus combinaram pedir ao senhor que leve Paulo amanhã ao Conselho Superior, com a desculpa de quererem examinar melhor o caso dele.
21 Do not thou then be persuaded by them, for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, who have put themselves under a curse neither to eat nor drink till they kill him; and now they are ready waiting the promise from thee.
21 Mas não acredite nisso, pois mais de quarenta deles vão ficar escondidos esperando Paulo para o matar. Todos eles fizeram este juramento: “Que Deus nos amaldiçoe se comermos ou bebermos qualquer coisa antes de termos matado Paulo.” Eles estão prontos para cumprir o juramento e esperam apenas saber o que o senhor vai resolver.
22 The chiliarch then dismissed the youth, commanding {him}, Utter to no one that thou hast represented these things to me.
22 Então o comandante respondeu: — Não diga a ninguém que você me contou isso. E mandou que o moço fosse embora.
23 And having called to {him} certain two of the centurions, he said, Prepare two hundred soldiers that they may go as far as Caesarea, and seventy horsemen, and two hundred light-armed footmen, for the third hour of the night.
23 Então o comandante chamou dois oficiais e disse: — Arranjem duzentos soldados, e mais setenta cavaleiros, e duzentos lanceiros para ir até a cidade de Cesareia. Estejam prontos para sair daqui às nove horas da noite.
24 And {he ordered them} to provide beasts, that they might set Paul on them and carry {him} safe through to Felix the governor,
24 Preparem também cavalos para Paulo montar e o levem com toda a segurança para o governador Félix.
25 having written a letter, couched in this form:
25 Depois o comandante escreveu uma carta que dizia o seguinte:
26 Claudius Lysias to the most excellent governor Felix, greeting.
26 “Excelentíssimo Governador Félix, “Saudações.
27 This man, having been taken by the Jews, and being about to be killed by them, I came up with the military and took out {of their hands}, having learned that he was a Roman.
27 “Alguns judeus agarraram este homem e quase o mataram. Quando soube que ele era cidadão romano, eu fui com os meus soldados e não deixei que ele fosse morto.
28 And desiring to know the charge on which they accused him, I brought him down to their council;
28 Eu queria saber por que o estavam acusando e por isso resolvi levá-lo diante do Conselho Superior dos judeus.
29 whom I found to be accused of questions of their law, but to have no charge laid against him {making him} worthy of death or of bonds.
29 Então descobri que ele não tinha feito nada para merecer a prisão ou a morte. A acusação contra ele era a respeito da própria lei deles.
30 But having received information of a plot about to be put in execution against the man {by the Jews}, I have immediately sent him to thee, commanding also his accusers to say before thee the things that are against him. {Farewell.}
30 Quando fui informado de que havia um plano para matá-lo, resolvi mandá-lo ao senhor. E disse para aqueles judeus que fizessem as acusações na sua presença. “Saúde. “Cláudio Lísias.”
31 The soldiers therefore, according to what was ordered them, took Paul and brought him by night to Antipatris,
31 Então os soldados cumpriram as ordens. Pegaram Paulo e o levaram durante a noite até a cidade de Antipátride.
32 and on the morrow, having left the horsemen to go with him, returned to the fortress.
32 No dia seguinte os soldados voltaram para a fortaleza, deixando que os cavaleiros continuassem a viagem com Paulo.
33 And these, having entered into Caesarea, and given up the letter to the governor, presented Paul also to him.
33 Eles o levaram para a cidade de Cesareia, deram a carta ao Governador e lhe entregaram Paulo.
34 And having read {it}, and asked of what eparchy he was, and learned that {he was} of Cilicia,
34 O Governador leu a carta e perguntou a Paulo de onde ele era. Quando soube que era da região da Cilícia,
35 he said, I will hear thee fully when thine accusers also are arrived. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's praetorium.
35 disse: — Quando os seus acusadores chegarem, eu ouvirei o que você tem para dizer. Em seguida mandou que ele ficasse preso no palácio do Governador .
