1 And he came to Derbe and Lystra: and behold, a certain disciple was there, by name Timotheus, son of a Jewish believing woman, but {the} father a Greek,
1 Paulo chegou às cidades de Derbe e Listra. Em Listra morava um cristão chamado Timóteo. A mãe dele, uma cristã, era da raça dos judeus, mas o pai dele não era judeu.
2 who had a {good} testimony of the brethren in Lystra and Iconium.
2 Todos os irmãos que moravam em Listra e Icônio falavam bem de Timóteo.
3 Him would Paul have go forth with him, and took {him and} circumcised him on account of the Jews who were in those places, for they all knew his father that he was a Greek.
3 Paulo quis levá-lo consigo e por isso o circuncidou , pois todos os judeus que moravam naqueles lugares sabiam que o pai de Timóteo não era judeu.
4 And as they passed through the cities they instructed them to observe the decrees determined on by the apostles and elders who were in Jerusalem.
4 Nas cidades por onde passavam, eles diziam aos cristãos quais as decisões que tinham sido tomadas pelos apóstolos e pelos presbíteros da igreja de Jerusalém e aconselhavam que eles obedecessem a essas decisões.
5 The assemblies therefore were confirmed in the faith, and increased in number every day.
5 Assim as igrejas ficavam mais fortes na fé, e o número de cristãos aumentava cada dia mais.
6 And having passed through Phrygia and the Galatian country, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia,
6 Como o Espírito Santo não deixou que anunciassem a palavra na província da Ásia, eles atravessaram a região da Frígia-Galácia.
7 having come down to Mysia, they attempted to go to Bithynia, and the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them;
7 Quando chegaram perto do distrito da Mísia, tentaram ir para a província da Bitínia, mas o Espírito de Jesus não deixou.
8 and having passed by Mysia they descended to Troas.
8 Então atravessaram a Mísia e chegaram à cidade de Trôade.
9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: There was a certain Macedonian man, standing and beseeching him, and saying, Pass over into Macedonia and help us.
9 Naquela noite Paulo teve uma visão. Ele viu um homem da província da Macedônia, que estava de pé e lhe pedia: “Venha para a Macedônia e nos ajude!”
10 And when he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go forth to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to announce to them the glad tidings.
10 Logo depois dessa visão, nós resolvemos partir logo para a Macedônia, pois estávamos certos de que Deus nos havia chamado para anunciar o evangelho ao povo dali.
11 Having sailed therefore away from Troas, we went in a straight course to Samothracia, and on the morrow to Neapolis,
11 Nós embarcamos em Trôade e fomos diretamente para a ilha de Samotrácia. No dia seguinte chegamos ao porto de Neápolis.
12 and thence to Philippi, which is {the} first city of that part of Macedonia, a colony. And we were staying in that city certain days.
12 Dali fomos a Filipos, que é uma cidade do primeiro distrito da província da Macedônia e também colônia romana, onde ficamos vários dias.
13 And on the sabbath day we went outside the gate by the river, where it was the custom for prayer to be, and we sat down and spoke to the women who had assembled.
13 No sábado saímos da cidade e fomos para a beira do rio, pois pensávamos que ali devia haver um lugar de oração para os judeus. Sentamos e começamos a conversar com as mulheres que estavam reunidas lá.
14 And a certain woman, by name Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, who worshipped God, heard; whose heart the Lord opened to attend to the things spoken by Paul.
14 Uma daquelas mulheres que estavam nos ouvindo era Lídia, uma vendedora de púrpura , da cidade de Tiatira. Ela adorava a Deus, e o Senhor abriu a mente dela para que compreendesse o que Paulo dizia.
15 And when she had been baptised and her house, she besought {us}, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and abide {there}. And she constrained us.
15 Ela e as pessoas da sua casa foram batizadas. Depois Lídia nos convidou, dizendo: — Venham ficar na minha casa, se é que vocês acham que, de fato, eu creio no Senhor. Assim ela nos convenceu a ficar na casa dela.
16 And it came to pass as we were going to prayer that a certain female slave, having a spirit of Python, met us, who brought much profit to her masters by prophesying.
16 Certo dia, quando estávamos indo para o lugar de oração, veio ao nosso encontro uma escrava. Essa moça estava dominada por um espírito mau que adivinhava o futuro, e os seus donos ganhavam muito dinheiro com as adivinhações que ela fazia.
17 She, having followed Paul and us, cried saying, These men are bondmen of the Most High God, who announce to you {the} way of salvation.
17 A moça começou a nos seguir, gritando assim: — Estes homens são
18 And this she did many days. And Paul, being distressed, turned, and said to the spirit, I enjoin thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And it came out the same hour.
18 Ela fez isso muitos dias. Por fim Paulo se aborreceu, virou-se para ela e ordenou ao espírito: — Pelo poder do nome de Jesus Cristo, eu mando que você saia desta moça! E, no mesmo instante, o espírito saiu.
19 And her masters, seeing that the hope of their gains was gone, having seized Paul and Silas, dragged {them} into the market before the magistrates;
19 Quando os donos da moça viram que não iam poder mais ganhar dinheiro com as adivinhações dela, agarraram Paulo e Silas e os arrastaram até a praça pública, diante das autoridades.
20 and having brought them up to the praetors, said, These men utterly trouble our city, being Jews,
20 Eles os apresentaram a essas autoridades romanas e disseram: — Estes homens são judeus e estão provocando desordem na nossa cidade.
21 and announce customs which it is not lawful for us to receive nor practise, being Romans.
21 Estão ensinando costumes que são contra a nossa lei . Nós, que somos romanos, não podemos aceitar esses costumes.
22 And the crowd rose up too against them; and the praetors, having torn off their clothes, commanded to scourge {them}.
22 Aí uma multidão se ajuntou para atacar Paulo e Silas. As autoridades mandaram que tirassem as roupas deles e os surrassem com varas.
23 And having laid many stripes upon them they cast {them} into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely;
23 Depois de baterem muito neles, as autoridades jogaram os dois na cadeia e deram ordem ao carcereiro para guardá-los com toda a segurança.
24 who, having received such a charge, cast them into the inner prison, and secured their feet to the stocks.
24 Depois de receber essa ordem, o carcereiro os jogou numa cela que ficava no fundo da cadeia e prendeu os pés deles entre dois blocos de madeira.
25 And at midnight Paul and Silas, in praying, were praising God with singing, and the prisoners listened to them.
25 Mais ou menos à meia-noite, Paulo e Silas estavam orando e cantando hinos a Deus, e os outros presos escutavam.
26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison shook, and all the doors were immediately opened, and the bonds of all loosed.
26 De repente, o chão tremeu tanto, que abalou os alicerces da cadeia. Naquele instante todas as portas se abriram, e as correntes que prendiam os presos se arrebentaram.
27 And the jailor being awakened out of his sleep, and seeing the doors of the prison opened, having drawn a sword was going to kill himself, thinking the prisoners had fled.
27 Aí o carcereiro acordou. Quando viu que os portões da cadeia estavam abertos, pensou que os prisioneiros tinham fugido. Então puxou a espada e ia se matar,
28 But Paul called out with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm, for we are all here.
28 mas Paulo gritou bem alto: — Não faça isso! Todos nós estamos aqui!
29 And having asked for lights, he rushed in, and, trembling, fell down before Paul and Silas.
29 Aí o carcereiro pediu que lhe trouxessem uma luz, entrou depressa na cela e se ajoelhou, tremendo, aos pés de Paulo e Silas.
30 And leading them out said, Sirs, what must I do that I may be saved?
30 Depois levou os dois para fora e perguntou: — Senhores, o que devo fazer para ser salvo?
31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus and thou shalt be saved, thou and thy house.
31 Eles responderam: — Creia no Senhor Jesus e você será salvo — você e as pessoas da sua casa.
32 And they spoke to him the word of the Lord, with all that were in his house.
32 Então eles anunciaram a palavra do Senhor ao carcereiro e a todas as pessoas da casa dele.
33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed {them} from their stripes; and was baptised, he and all his straightway.
33 Naquela mesma hora da noite, o carcereiro começou a cuidar deles, lavando os ferimentos da surra que haviam levado. Logo depois ele e todas as pessoas da sua casa foram batizados.
34 And having brought them into his house he laid the table {for them}, and rejoiced with all his house, having believed in God.
34 Em seguida ele levou Paulo e Silas para a sua casa e lhes deu comida. O carcereiro e as pessoas da sua casa ficaram cheios de alegria porque agora criam em Deus.
35 And when it was day, the praetors sent the lictors, saying, Let those men go.
35 Quando amanheceu, as autoridades romanas mandaram alguns policiais com a seguinte ordem para o carcereiro: “Solte esses homens.”
36 And the jailor reported these words to Paul: The praetors have sent that ye may be let go. Now therefore go out and depart in peace.
36 Então o carcereiro disse a Paulo: — As autoridades mandaram soltá-los. Podem ir embora em paz.
37 But Paul said to them, Having beaten us publicly uncondemned, us who are Romans, they have cast us into prison, and now they thrust us out secretly? no, indeed, but let them come themselves and bring us out.
37 Mas Paulo disse aos policiais: — Eu e Silas somos cidadãos romanos e, mesmo assim, sem termos sido julgados, fomos surrados em público. E depois nos jogaram na cadeia. E agora querem nos mandar embora assim em segredo? Isso não! Que as próprias autoridades romanas venham aqui e nos soltem!
38 And the lictors reported these words to the praetors. And they were afraid when they heard they were Romans.
38 Os policiais foram contar às autoridades romanas o que Paulo tinha dito. Quando as autoridades souberam que Paulo e Silas eram cidadãos romanos, ficaram com medo
39 And they came and besought them, and having brought them out, asked them to go out of the city.
39 e foram lhes pedir desculpas. Então os tiraram da prisão e pediram que fossem embora da cidade.
40 And having gone out of the prison, they came to Lydia; and having seen the brethren, they exhorted them and went away.
40 Paulo e Silas saíram da cadeia e foram para a casa de Lídia. Ali encontraram-se com os irmãos, animaram a todos e depois foram embora.
