1 Wherefore, being no longer able to refrain ourselves, we thought good to be left alone in Athens,
1 Por isso, não podendo esperar mais, achamos por bem ficar sozinhos em Atenas
2 and sent Timotheus, our brother and fellow-workman under God in the glad tidings of Christ, to confirm you and encourage {you} concerning your faith,
2 e enviar o nosso irmão Timóteo, ministro de Deus no evangelho de Cristo, para fortalecer e animá-los na fé,
3 that no one might be moved by these afflictions. (For yourselves know that we are set for this;
3 a fim de que ninguém se inquiete com essas tribulações. Porque vocês mesmos sabem que fomos designados para isto.
4 for also, when we were with you, we told you beforehand we are about to be in tribulation, even as also it came to pass, and ye know.)
4 Pois, quando ainda estávamos com vocês, predissemos que íamos passar por aflições, o que de fato aconteceu e é do conhecimento de vocês.
5 For this reason *I* also, no longer able to refrain myself, sent to know your faith, lest perhaps the tempter had tempted you and our labour should be come to nothing.
5 Foi por isso que, já não me sendo possível continuar esperando, mandei perguntar a respeito da fé que vocês têm, temendo que vocês fossem provados pelo tentador e o nosso trabalho se tornasse inútil.
6 But Timotheus having just come to us from you, and brought to us the glad tidings of your faith and love, and that ye have always good remembrance of us, desiring much to see us, even as we also you;
6 Agora, porém, com o regresso de Timóteo, vindo do meio de vocês, trazendo-nos boas notícias a respeito da fé e do amor que vocês têm, e, ainda, de que sempre guardam grata lembrança de nós, desejando muito nos ver, como, aliás, também nós temos vontade de ver vocês,
7 for this reason we have been comforted in you, brethren, in all our distress and tribulation, through your faith,
7 sim, irmãos, por isso, ficamos animados a respeito de vocês, pela fé que vocês têm, apesar de toda a nossa necessidade e tribulação.
8 because now we live if *ye* stand firm in {the} Lord.
8 Porque, agora, vivemos, se vocês estão firmes no Senhor.
9 For what thanksgiving can we render to God for you, for all the joy wherewith we rejoice on account of you before our God,
9 Pois que ação de graças podemos render a Deus no que se refere a vocês, por toda a alegria com que nos regozijamos por causa de vocês, diante do nosso Deus?
10 night and day beseeching exceedingly to the end that we may see your face, and perfect what is lacking in your faith?
10 Oramos noite e dia, com máximo empenho, para que possamos ir vê-los pessoalmente e suprir o que ainda falta à fé que vocês têm.
11 But our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way to you.
11 Que o próprio Deus, o nosso Pai, e Jesus, o nosso Senhor, preparem o nosso caminho para podermos ir visitar vocês.
12 But you, may the Lord make to exceed and abound in love toward one another, and toward all, even as we also towards you,
12 E o Senhor faça com que cresça e aumente o amor de uns para com os outros e para com todos, como também o nosso amor por vocês,
13 in order to the confirming of your hearts unblamable in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.
13 a fim de que o coração de vocês seja fortalecido em santidade, isento de culpa, na presença de nosso Deus e Pai, na vinda de nosso Senhor Jesus, com todos os seus santos.
