1 And the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on mount Gilboa.
1 Os filisteus lutaram contra os israelitas no monte Gilboa. Muitos israelitas foram mortos ali, e o resto fugiu. Entre os que fugiram estavam o rei Saul e os seus filhos.
2 And the Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines smote Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, Saul's sons.
2 Mas os filisteus os cercaram e mataram Jônatas, Abinadabe e Malquisua, filhos de Saul.
3 And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers came up with him, and he was terrified by the archers.
3 A luta estava feroz em volta de Saul, que foi atingido por flechas inimigas e ficou muito ferido.
4 Then said Saul to his armour-bearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through with it; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armour-bearer would not; for he was much afraid. So Saul took the sword and fell on it.
4 Então disse ao rapaz que carregava as suas armas: — Tire a sua espada e me mate para que esses filisteus pagãos não caçoem de mim. Mas o rapaz estava muito apavorado e não quis fazer isso. Então Saul pegou a sua própria espada e se jogou sobre ela.
5 And when his armour-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.
5 Quando viu que Saul estava morto, o rapaz também se jogou sobre a sua própria espada e morreu junto com ele.
6 So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together.
6 E assim Saul e os seus três filhos morreram juntos, e nenhum dos seus descendentes se tornou rei.
7 And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
7 Quando os israelitas que moravam no vale de Jezreel souberam que o exército de Israel havia fugido e que Saul e os seus filhos tinham sido mortos, abandonaram as suas cidades e fugiram. Então os filisteus foram e ocuparam aquelas cidades.
8 And it came to pass the next day, that the Philistines came to strip the slain, and they found Saul and his sons fallen on mount Gilboa.
8 Um dia depois da batalha, quando os filisteus voltaram lá para tirar dos mortos as coisas de valor, acharam os corpos de Saul e dos seus filhos caídos no monte Gilboa.
9 And they stripped him, and took his head, and his armour, and sent {them} into the land of the Philistines round about, to announce the glad tidings to their idols, and to the people.
9 Então cortaram a cabeça de Saul e pegaram as armas dele. Depois mandaram mensageiros com elas para o território filisteu a fim de darem as boas notícias aos seus ídolos e ao povo.
10 And they put his armour in the house of their god, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon.
10 Eles puseram as armas dele num dos seus templos e penduraram a sua cabeça no templo de Dagom, o deus deles.
11 And when all they of Jabesh-Gilead heard of all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
11 Quando o povo da cidade de Jabes, em Gileade, soube do que os filisteus haviam feito com Saul,
12 all the valiant men arose, and took up the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the terebinth of Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
12 os seus moradores mais corajosos foram, pegaram os corpos de Saul e dos seus filhos e os levaram para Jabes. Eles os sepultaram debaixo de um carvalho e jejuaram sete dias.
13 And Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he committed against Jehovah, because of the word of Jehovah which he kept not, and also for having inquired of the spirit of Python, asking counsel of it;
13 Saul morreu assim porque foi infiel a Deus, o Senhor . Ele desobedeceu aos mandamentos de Deus e consultou os espíritos dos mortos,
14 and he asked not counsel of Jehovah; therefore he slew him, and transferred the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.
14 em vez de consultar o Senhor . Por isso, Deus o matou e entregou o reino a Davi, filho de Jessé.
