1 AND now it came to pass that there were a great multitude gathered together, of the people of Nephi, round about the temple which was in the land Bountiful; and they were marveling and wondering one with another, and were showing one to another the great and marvelous change which had taken place.
1 O rei Salomão amou muitas mulheres estrangeiras. Além da filha do faraó, ele se casou com mulheres de Moabe, de Amom, de Edom, de Sidom e dos hititas.
2 And they were also conversing about this Jesus Christ, of whom the sign had been given concerning his death.
2 O S enhor havia instruído os israelitas claramente: “Não se casem com mulheres dessas nações, pois desviarão seu coração para os deuses delas”. E, no entanto, Salomão amou essas mulheres.
3 And it came to pass that while they were thus conversing one with another, they heard a voice as if it came out of heaven; and they cast their eyes round about, for they understood not the voice which they heard; and it was not a harsh voice, neither was it a loud voice; nevertheless, and notwithstanding it being a small voice it did pierce them that did hear to the center, insomuch that there was no part of their frame that it did not cause to quake; yea, it did pierce them to the very soul, and did cause their hearts to burn.
3 No total, casou-se com setecentas princesas e teve trezentas concubinas. E elas desviaram seu coração do S enhor .
4 And it came to pass that again they heard the voice, and they understood it not.
4 Quando Salomão era idoso, elas o induziram a adorar outros deuses em vez de ser inteiramente fiel ao S enhor , seu Deus, como seu pai, Davi, tinha sido.
5 And again the third time they did hear the voice, and did open their ears to hear it; and their eyes were towards the sound thereof; and they did look steadfastly towards heaven, from whence the sound came.
5 Salomão adorou Astarote, a deusa dos sidônios, e Moloque, o repulsivo deus dos amonitas.
6 And behold, the third time they did understand the voice which they heard; and it said unto them:
6 Com isso, Salomão fez o que era mau aos olhos do S enhor ; recusou-se a seguir inteiramente o S enhor , como seu pai, Davi, tinha feito.
7 Behold my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, in whom I have glorified my name-hear ye him.
7 No monte que fica a leste de Jerusalém, chegou a construir um lugar de culto para Camos, o repulsivo deus de Moabe, e outro para Moloque, o repulsivo deus dos amonitas.
8 And it came to pass, as they understood they cast their eyes up again towards heaven; and behold, they saw a Man descending out of heaven; and he was clothed in a white robe; and he came down and stood in the midst of them; and the eyes of the whole multitude were turned upon him, and they durst not open their mouths, even one to another, and wist not what it meant, for they thought it was an angel that had appeared unto them.
8 Salomão construiu esses lugares de culto para que suas esposas estrangeiras queimassem incenso e oferecessem sacrifícios aos deuses delas.
9 And it came to pass that he stretched forth his hand and spake unto the people, saying:
9 O S enhor se irou com Salomão, porque o coração dele tinha se desviado do S enhor , o Deus de Israel, que lhe havia aparecido duas vezes.
10 Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world.
10 Ele tinha advertido Salomão especificamente de que não adorasse outros deuses, mas Salomão não obedeceu à ordem do S enhor .
11 And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in taking upon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning.
11 Por isso, o S enhor lhe disse: “Uma vez que você não cumpriu minha aliança e desobedeceu a meus decretos, certamente tirarei de você o reino e o entregarei a um de seus servos.
12 And it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words the whole multitude fell to the earth; for they remembered that it had been prophesied among them that Christ should show himself unto them after his ascension into heaven.
12 Mas, por causa de seu pai, Davi, não farei isso enquanto você estiver vivo. Tirarei o reino de seu filho
13 And it came to pass that the Lord spake unto them saying:
13 e, ainda assim, não tirarei dele o reino inteiro; deixarei que governe sobre uma tribo, por causa do meu servo Davi e de Jerusalém, a cidade que escolhi”.
14 Arise and come forth unto me, that ye may thrust your hands into my side, and also that ye may feel the prints of the nails in my hands and in my feet, that ye may know that I am the God of Israel, and the God of the whole earth, and have been slain for the sins of the world.
14 Então o S enhor levantou o edomita Hadade, da família real de Edom, para ser adversário de Salomão.
15 And it came to pass that the multitude went forth, and thrust their hands into his side, and did feel the prints of the nails in his hands and in his feet; and this they did do, going forth one by one until they had all gone forth, and did see with their eyes and did feel with their hands, and did know of a surety and did bear record, that it was he, of whom it was written by the prophets, that should come.
15 Anos antes, Davi tinha derrotado Edom. Joabe, comandante do exército de Davi, tinha ficado para trás a fim de enterrar alguns soldados israelitas mortos na batalha. Enquanto estavam ali, mataram todos os homens de Edom.
16 And when they had all gone forth and had witnessed for themselves, they did cry out with one accord, saying:
16 Joabe e o exército de Israel tinham permanecido ali seis meses, até matarem todos os edomitas.
17 Hosanna! Blessed be the name of the Most High God! And they did fall down at the feet of Jesus, and did worship him.
17 Contudo, Hadade e alguns dos oficiais de seu pai conseguiram fugir e seguiram para o Egito. Na época, Hadade ainda era bem jovem.
18 And it came to pass that he spake unto Nephi (for Nephi was among the multitude) and he commanded him that he should come forth.
18 Partiram de Midiã e foram a Parã, onde outros se juntaram a eles. Em seguida, foram ao Egito e se apresentaram ao faraó, o rei do Egito, que lhes ofereceu casas, sustento e terras.
19 And Nephi arose and went forth, and bowed himself before the Lord and did kiss his feet.
19 O faraó se agradou de Hadade e lhe deu em casamento sua cunhada, a irmã da rainha Tafnes.
20 And the Lord commanded him that he should arise. And he arose and stood before him.
20 A esposa de Hadade deu à luz um filho chamado Genubate. Tafnes o criou na casa do faraó, entre os próprios filhos do faraó.
21 And the Lord said unto him: I give unto you power that ye shall baptize this people when I am again ascended into heaven.
21 Quando chegou a Hadade no Egito a notícia de que Davi e seu comandante Joabe estavam mortos, ele disse ao faraó: “Deixe-me voltar para minha terra”.
22 And again the Lord called others, and said unto them likewise; and he gave unto them power to baptize. And he said unto them: On this wise shall ye baptize; and there shall be no disputations among you.
22 “Por quê?”, perguntou o faraó. “O que lhe falta aqui para que você queira voltar para sua terra?” “Não me falta nada”, respondeu ele. “Ainda assim, peço que me deixe voltar.”
23 Verily I say unto you, that whoso repenteth of his sins through your words, and desireth to be baptized in my name, on this wise shall ye baptize them-Behold, ye shall go down and stand in the water, and in my name shall ye baptize them.
23 Deus também levantou Rezom, filho de Eliada, para ser adversário de Salomão. Rezom havia fugido de seu senhor Hadadezer, rei de Zobá,
24 And now behold, these are the words which ye shall say, calling them by name, saying:
24 e se tornado líder de um bando de rebeldes. Depois que Davi derrotou Hadadezer, Rezom e seus homens fugiram para Damasco, onde Rezom se tornou rei.
25 Having authority given me of Jesus Christ, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
25 Ele foi inimigo ferrenho de Israel durante o resto do reinado de Salomão e, assim como Hadade, causou muitos problemas. Rezom continuou a reinar na Síria e odiava Israel profundamente.
26 And then shall ye immerse them in the water, and come forth again out of the water.
26 Outro líder rebelde foi Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, um dos próprios oficiais de Salomão. Veio da cidade de Zeredá, em Efraim; sua mãe era viúva e se chamava Zerua.
27 And after this manner shall ye baptize in my name; for behold, verily I say unto you, that the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost are one; and I am in the Father, and the Father in me, and the Father and I are one.
27 Esta é a história por trás de sua rebelião. Salomão estava construindo o aterro e reparando os muros da Cidade de Davi, seu pai.
28 And according as I have commanded you thus shall ye baptize. And there shall be no disputations among you, as there have hitherto been; neither shall there be disputations among you concerning the points of my doctrine, as there have hitherto been.
28 Jeroboão era um jovem muito capaz e, quando Salomão viu como era diligente, encarregou-o dos trabalhadores das tribos de Efraim e Manassés, os descendentes de José.
29 For verily, verily I say unto you, he that hath the spirit of contention is not of me, but is of the devil, who is the father of contention, and he stirreth up the hearts of men to contend with anger, one with another.
29 Certo dia, quando Jeroboão saía de Jerusalém, Aías, profeta de Siló, encontrou-se com ele no caminho. Aías vestia uma capa nova. Enquanto os dois estavam sozinhos no campo,
30 Behold, this is not my doctrine, to stir up the hearts of men with anger, one against another; but this is my doctrine, that such things should be done away.
30 Aías pegou sua capa nova e a rasgou em doze partes.
31 Behold, verily, verily, I say unto you, I will declare unto you my doctrine.
31 Disse a Jeroboão: “Fique com dez pedaços, pois assim diz o S enhor , o Deus de Israel: ‘Estou prestes a tirar o reino das mãos de Salomão e entregar dez tribos a você.
32 And this is my doctrine, and it is the doctrine which the Father hath given unto me; and I bear record of the Father, and the Father beareth record of me, and the Holy Ghost beareth record of the Father and me; and I bear record that the Father commandeth all men, everywhere, to repent and believe in me.
32 Contudo, deixarei uma tribo para ele, por causa do meu servo Davi e de Jerusalém, a cidade que escolhi dentre todas as tribos de Israel.
33 And whoso believeth in me, and is baptized, the same shall be saved; and they are they who shall inherit the kingdom of God.
33 Pois Salomão me abandonou e adorou Astarote, a deusa dos sidônios, Camos, o deus de Moabe, e Moloque, o deus dos amonitas. Não seguiu meus caminhos nem fez o que me agrada. Não obedeceu a meus decretos e estatutos, como fez seu pai, Davi.
34 And whoso believeth not in me, and is not baptized, shall be damned.
34 “‘Contudo, não tirarei o reino inteiro de Salomão agora. Por causa do meu servo Davi, a quem escolhi e que obedeceu a meus mandamentos e decretos, manterei Salomão no governo enquanto ele viver.
35 Verily, verily, I say unto you, that this is my doctrine, and I bear record of it from the Father; and whoso believeth in me believeth in the Father also; and unto him will the Father bear record of me, for he will visit him with fire and with the Holy Ghost.
35 Mas tirarei o reino do filho dele e darei dez tribos a você.
36 And thus will the Father bear record of me, and the Holy Ghost will bear record unto him of the Father and me; for the Father, and I, and the Holy Ghost are one.
36 O filho de Salomão terá uma tribo, para que os descendentes de meu servo Davi continuem a brilhar como uma lâmpada em Jerusalém, a cidade que escolhi como lugar para o meu nome.
37 And again I say unto you, ye must repent, and become as a little child, and be baptized in my name, or ye can in nowise receive these things.
37 Eu o colocarei no trono de Israel, e você governará sobre tudo que seu coração desejar.
38 And again I say unto you, ye must repent, and be baptized in my name, and become as a little child, or ye can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God.
38 Se der ouvidos ao que digo, seguir meus caminhos e fizer o que me agrada, e se obedecer a meus estatutos e mandamentos, como fez meu servo Davi, sempre estarei com você. Estabelecerei para você uma dinastia, como fiz com Davi, e lhe darei Israel.
39 Verily, verily, I say unto you, that this is my doctrine, and whoso buildeth upon this buildeth upon my rock, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against them.
39 Por causa do pecado de Salomão, castigarei os descendentes de Davi, mas não para sempre’”.
40 And whoso shall declare more or less than this, and establish it for my doctrine, the same cometh of evil, and is not built upon my rock; but he buildeth upon a sandy foundation, and the gates of hell stand open to receive such when the floods come and the winds beat upon them.
40 Salomão tentou matar Jeroboão, mas ele fugiu para junto de Sisaque, rei do Egito, e ficou ali até a morte de Salomão.
41 Therefore, go forth unto this people, and declare the words which I have spoken, unto the ends of the earth.
41 Os demais acontecimentos do reinado de Salomão, incluindo todos os seus feitos e sua sabedoria, estão registrados no Livro dos Atos de Salomão .

42 Salomão reinou por quarenta anos sobre todo o Israel, em Jerusalém.
43 — ausente —
43 Quando morreu e se reuniu a seus antepassados, foi sepultado na Cidade de Davi, seu pai. Seu filho Roboão foi seu sucessor.
