1 Now Hiram, king of Tyre, hearing that Solomon had been made king in place of his father, sent his servants to him; for Hiram had ever been a friend to David.
1 E enviou Hirão, rei de Tiro, os seus servos a Salomão (porque ouvira que ungiram a Salomão rei em lugar de seu pai), porquanto Hirão sempre tinha amado a Davi.
2 And Solomon sent back word to Hiram, saying,
2 Então, Salomão enviou a Hirão, dizendo:
3 You have knowledge that David my father was not able to make a house for the name of the Lord his God, because of the wars which were round him on every side, till the Lord put all those who were against him under his feet.
3 Bem sabes tu que Davi, meu pai, não pôde edificar uma casa ao nome do Senhor , seu Deus, por causa da guerra com que o cercaram, até que o Senhor os pôs debaixo das plantas dos pés.
4 But now the Lord my God has given me rest on every side; no one is making trouble, and no evil is taking place.
4 Porém agora o Senhor , meu Deus, me tem dado descanso de todos os lados; adversário não há, nem algum mal encontro.
5 And so it is my purpose to make a house for the name of the Lord my God, as he said to David my father, Your son, whom I will make king in your place, will be the builder of a house for my name.
5 E eis que eu intento edificar uma casa ao nome do Senhor , meu Deus, como falou o Senhor a Davi, meu pai, dizendo: Teu filho, que porei em teu lugar no teu trono, esse edificará uma casa ao meu nome.
6 So now, will you have cedar-trees from Lebanon cut down for me, and my servants will be with your servants; and I will give you payment for your servants at whatever rate you say; for it is common knowledge that we have no such wood-cutters among us as the men of Zidon.
6 Dá ordem, pois, agora, que do Líbano me cortem cedros, e os meus servos estarão com os teus servos, e eu te darei o salário dos teus servos, conforme tudo o que disseres; porque bem sabes tu que entre nós ninguém há que saiba cortar a madeira como os sidônios.
7 And these words of Solomon made Hiram glad, and he said, Now may the Lord be praised who has given to David a wise son to be king over this great people.
7 E aconteceu que, ouvindo Hirão as palavras de Salomão, muito se alegrou e disse: Bendito seja hoje o Senhor , que deu a Davi um filho sábio sobre este tão grande povo.
8 Then Hiram sent to Solomon, saying; The words you sent have been given to me: I will do all your desire in the question of cedar-wood and cypress-wood.
8 E enviou Hirão a Salomão, dizendo: Ouvi o que me mandaste dizer. Eu farei toda a tua vontade acerca dos cedros e acerca das faias.
9 My men will take them down from Lebanon to the sea, where I will have them corded together to go by sea to whatever place you say, and I will have them cut up there so that you may take them away; as for payment, it will be enough if you give me food for my people.
9 Os meus servos os levarão desde o Líbano até ao mar, e eu os farei conduzir em jangadas pelo mar até ao lugar que me designares e ali os desamarrarei; e tu os tomarás; tu também farás a minha vontade, dando sustento à minha casa.
10 So Hiram gave Solomon all the cedar-wood and cypress-wood he had need of;
10 Assim, deu Hirão a Salomão madeira de cedros e madeira de faias, conforme toda a sua vontade.
11 And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of grain, as food for his people, and twenty measures of clear oil; this he did every year.
11 E Salomão deu a Hirão vinte mil coros de trigo, para sustento da sua casa, e vinte coros de azeite batido; isso dava Salomão a Hirão de ano em ano.
12 Now the Lord had given Solomon wisdom, as he had said to him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and they made an agreement together.
12 Deu, pois, o Senhor a Salomão sabedoria como lhe tinha dito; e houve paz entre Hirão e Salomão, e ambos fizeram aliança.
13 Then King Solomon got together men for the forced work through all Israel, thirty thousand men in number;
13 E o rei Salomão fez subir leva de gente dentre todo o Israel, e foi a leva de gente trinta mil homens.
14 And sent them to Lebanon in bands of ten thousand every month: for a month they were working in Lebanon and for two months in their country, and Adoniram was in control of them.
14 E os enviou ao Líbano, cada mês dez mil por sua vez; um mês estavam no Líbano, e dois meses, cada um em sua casa; e Adonirão estava sobre a leva de gente.
15 Then he had seventy thousand for the work of transport, and eighty thousand stone-cutters in the mountains;
15 Tinha também Salomão setenta mil que levavam as cargas e oitenta mil que cortavam nas montanhas.
16 In addition to the chiefs of the responsible men put by Solomon to oversee the work, three thousand and three hundred in authority over the workmen.
16 Afora os chefes dos oficiais de Salomão, os quais estavam sobre aquela obra, três mil e trezentos, que davam as ordens ao povo que fazia aquela obra.
17 By the king's orders great stones, stones of high price, were cut out, so that the base of the house might be made of squared stone.
17 E mandou o rei que trouxessem pedras grandes e pedras preciosas, pedras lavradas, para fundarem a casa.
18 Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders did the work of cutting them, and put edges on them, and got the wood and the stone ready for the building of the house.
18 E as lavravam os edificadores de Salomão, e os de Hirão, e os gebalitas; e preparavam a madeira e as pedras para edificar a casa.
