1 When Ephraim spake, there was trembling; he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died.
1 Quando a tribo de Efraim falava, o povo tremia de medo, pois essa tribo era importante em Israel. Mas pecaram ao adorar Baal e, com isso, selaram sua destruição.
2 And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, even idols according to their own understanding, all of them the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.
2 Agora, continuam a pecar ao fazer ídolos de prata, imagens modeladas por mãos humanas. “Ofereçam-lhes sacrifícios!”, eles dizem. “Beijem os ídolos em forma de bezerro!”
3 Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the dew that passeth early away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the threshing-floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.
3 Por isso, desaparecerão como a neblina da manhã, como o orvalho à luz do sol, como a palha soprada pelo vento, como a fumaça que sai pela chaminé.
4 Yet I am Jehovah thy God from the land of Egypt; and thou shalt know no god but me, and besides me there is no saviour.
4 “Eu sou o S enhor , seu Deus, que os tirou do Egito. Vocês não reconhecerão outro Deus além de mim, pois não existe outro salvador.
5 I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.
5 Cuidei de vocês no deserto, naquela terra seca e sedenta.
6 According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted: therefore have they forgotten me.
6 Mas depois que comeram e se saciaram, ficaram orgulhosos e se esqueceram de mim.
7 Therefore am I unto them as a lion; as a leopard will I watch by the way;
7 Agora, eu os atacarei como um leão, como um leopardo à espreita no caminho.
8 I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart; and there will I devour them like a lioness; the wild beast shall tear them.
8 Como uma ursa da qual roubaram os filhotes, arrancarei seu coração. Como uma leoa faminta os devorarei, e como um animal selvagem os despedaçarei.
9 It is thy destruction, O Israel, that
9 “Ó Israel, você está prestes a ser destruído por mim, seu único ajudador.
10 Where now is thy king, that he may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges, of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes?
10 Agora, onde está seu rei? Que ele salve suas cidades! Onde estão os líderes da terra, os reis e os príncipes que vocês exigiram de mim?
11 I have given thee a king in mine anger, and have taken him away in my wrath.
11 Em minha ira, eu lhes dei reis e, em minha fúria, os tirei.
12 The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is laid up in store.
12 “A culpa de Efraim foi acumulada, e seu pecado, armazenado para o castigo.
13 The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for it is time he should not tarry in the place of the breaking forth of children.
13 O povo sentiu dores, como as dores do parto, mas é insensato como uma criança que não quer nascer. A hora do nascimento chegou, mas ele fica no ventre.
14 I will ransom them from the power of Sheol; I will redeem them from death: O death, where are thy plagues? O Sheol, where is thy destruction? repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.
14 “Devo resgatá-los da sepultura? Devo redimi-los da morte? Ó morte, traga seus horrores! Ó sepultura, traga suas pragas! Pois não terei compaixão deles.
15 Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the breath of Jehovah coming up from the wilderness; and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall make spoil of the treasure of all goodly vessels.
15 Efraim é o mais próspero de seus irmãos, mas um vento leste, uma rajada do S se levantará no deserto. Suas fontes se esgotarão, e seus poços secarão. Todas as suas riquezas serão saqueadas e levadas embora.
16 Samaria shall bear her guilt; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword; their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.
16 O povo de Samaria sofrerá as consequências de sua culpa, pois se rebelou contra seu Deus. Serão mortos pela espada inimiga; suas crianças serão despedaçadas, e suas mulheres grávidas, abertas ao meio.”
