1 I must needs glory, though it is not expedient; but I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.
1 Se é necessário que eu me glorie, ainda que não seja conveniente, vou falar a respeito das visões e revelações do Senhor.
2 I know a man in Christ, fourteen years ago (whether in the body, I know not; or whether out of the body, I know not; God knoweth), such a one caught up even to the third heaven.
2 Conheço um homem em Cristo que, há catorze anos, foi arrebatado até o terceiro céu. Se isso foi no corpo ou fora do corpo, não sei; Deus o sabe.
3 And I know such a man (whether in the body, or apart from the body, I know not; God knoweth),
3 E sei que esse homem — se no corpo ou sem o corpo, não sei; Deus o sabe —
4 how that he was caught up into Paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.
4 foi arrebatado ao paraíso e ouviu palavras indizíveis, que homem nenhum tem permissão para repetir.
5 On behalf of such a one will I glory: but on mine own behalf I will not glory, save in
5 Desse eu me gloriarei; não, porém, de mim mesmo, a não ser nas minhas fraquezas.
6 For if I should desire to glory, I shall not be foolish; for I shall speak the truth: but I forbear, lest any man should account of me above that which he seeth me
6 Pois, se eu vier a gloriar-me, não serei louco, porque estarei falando a verdade. Mas evito fazer isso para que ninguém se preocupe comigo mais do que vê em mim ou do que ouve de mim.
7 And by reason of the exceeding greatness of the revelations, that I should not be exalted overmuch, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, that I should not be exalted overmuch.
7 E, para que eu não ficasse orgulhoso com a grandeza das revelações, foi-me posto um espinho na carne, mensageiro de Satanás, para me esbofetear, a fim de que eu não me exalte.
8 Concerning this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
8 Três vezes pedi ao Senhor que o afastasse de mim.
9 And he hath said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for
9 Então ele me disse: “A minha graça é o que basta para você, porque o poder se aperfeiçoa na fraqueza.” De boa vontade, pois, mais me gloriarei nas fraquezas, para que sobre mim repouse o poder de Cristo.
10 Wherefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
10 Por isso, sinto prazer nas fraquezas, nos insultos, nas privações, nas perseguições, nas angústias, por amor de Cristo. Porque, quando sou fraco, então é que sou forte.
11 I am become foolish: ye compelled me; for I ought to have been commended of you: for in nothing was I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I am nothing.
11 Fiz-me louco, mas vocês me obrigaram a isso. Eu devia ter sido recomendado por vocês, pois em nada fui inferior a esses “superapóstolos”, ainda que nada sou.
12 Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, by signs and wonders and mighty works.
12 Pois as minhas credenciais de apóstolo foram apresentadas no meio de vocês, com toda a paciência, por sinais, prodígios e maravilhas.
13 For what is there wherein ye were made inferior to the rest of the churches, except
13 Pois em que vocês foram inferiores às demais igrejas, senão no fato de eu não ter sido pesado a vocês? Perdoem-me esta injustiça.
14 Behold, this is the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be a burden to you: for I seek not yours, but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.
14 Eis que, pela terceira vez, estou pronto para visitá-los e não serei um peso para vocês. Pois não estou interessado nos bens de vocês, e sim em vocês mesmos. Não são os filhos que devem juntar riquezas para os pais, mas os pais, para os filhos.
15 And I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls. If I love you more abundantly, am I loved the less?
15 Eu de boa vontade gastarei e me deixarei gastar em favor de vocês. Se eu os amo cada vez mais, será que vou ser amado cada vez menos?
16 But be it so, I did not myself burden you; but, being crafty, I caught you with guile.
16 Seja como for, eu não fui um peso para vocês. No entanto, sendo astuto, eu os prendi com astúcia.
17 Did I take advantage of you by any one of them whom I have sent unto you?
17 Será que eu explorei vocês por meio de alguém que lhes enviei?
18 I exhorted Titus, and I sent the brother with him. Did Titus take any advantage of you? walked we not in the same spirit?
18 Pedi a Tito que fosse até aí e mandei com ele outro irmão. Será que Tito explorou vocês? Não é verdade que temos andado no mesmo espírito? Não seguimos nas mesmas pisadas?
19 Ye think all this time that we are excusing ourselves unto you. In the sight of God speak we in Christ. But all things, beloved,
19 Há muito vocês podem estar pensando que queremos nos defender diante de vocês. Falamos em Cristo diante de Deus, e tudo isto, meus amados, é para a edificação de vocês.
20 For I fear, lest by any means, when I come, I should find you not such as I would, and should myself be found of you such as ye would not; lest by any means
20 Pois tenho receio de que, indo até aí, eu não os encontre na forma em que gostaria de encontrá-los, e que também vocês me achem diferente do que esperavam, e que haja entre vocês briga, inveja, ira, egoísmo, difamação, intriga, orgulho e tumulto.
21 lest again when I come my God should humble me before you, and I should mourn for many of them that have sinned heretofore, and repented not of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they committed.
21 Tenho receio de que, indo outra vez, o meu Deus me humilhe diante de vocês, e eu venha a chorar por muitos que, no passado, pecaram e não se arrependeram da impureza, da imoralidade sexual e da libertinagem que praticaram.
