1 And it came to pass, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, Behold, David is in the wilderness of En-gedi.
1 Tendo Saul voltado de perseguir os filisteus, foi-lhe dito: Eis que Davi está no deserto de En-Gedi.
2 Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats.
2 Tomou, então, Saul três mil homens, escolhidos dentre todo o Israel, e foi ao encalço de Davi e dos seus homens, nas faldas das penhas das cabras monteses.
3 And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet. Now David and his men were abiding in the innermost parts of the cave.
3 Chegou a uns currais de ovelhas no caminho, onde havia uma caverna; entrou nela Saul, a aliviar o ventre. Ora, Davi e os seus homens estavam assentados no mais interior da mesma.
4 And the men of David said unto him, Behold, the day of which Jehovah said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thy hand, and thou shalt do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul’s robe privily.
4 Então, os homens de Davi lhe disseram: Hoje é o dia do qual o Senhor te disse: Eis que te entrego nas mãos o teu inimigo, e far-lhe-ás o que bem te parecer. Levantou-se Davi e, furtivamente, cortou a orla do manto de Saul.
5 And it came to pass afterward, that David’s heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul’s skirt.
5 Sucedeu, porém, que, depois, sentiu Davi bater-lhe o coração, por ter cortado a orla do manto de Saul;
6 And he said unto his men, Jehovah forbid that I should do this thing unto my lord, Jehovah’s anointed, to put forth my hand against him, seeing he is Jehovah’s anointed.
6 e disse aos seus homens: O Senhor me guarde de que eu faça tal coisa ao meu senhor, isto é, que eu estenda a mão contra ele, pois é o ungido do Senhor .
7 So David checked his men with these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. And Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.
7 Com estas palavras, Davi conteve os seus homens e não lhes permitiu que se levantassem contra Saul; retirando-se Saul da caverna, prosseguiu o seu caminho.
8 David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David bowed with his face to the earth, and did obeisance.
8 Depois, também Davi se levantou e, saindo da caverna, gritou a Saul, dizendo: Ó rei, meu senhor! Olhando Saul para trás, inclinou-se Davi e fez-lhe reverência, com o rosto em terra.
9 And David said to Saul, Wherefore hearkenest thou to men’s words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy hurt?
9 Disse Davi a Saul: Por que dás tu ouvidos às palavras dos homens que dizem: Davi procura fazer-te mal?
10 Behold, this day thine eyes have seen how that Jehovah had delivered thee to-day into my hand in the cave: and some bade me kill thee; but
10 Os teus próprios olhos viram, hoje, que o Senhor te pôs em minhas mãos nesta caverna, e alguns disseram que eu te matasse; porém a minha mão te poupou; porque disse: Não estenderei a mão contra o meu senhor, pois é o ungido de Deus.
11 Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand; for in that I cut off the skirt of thy robe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in my hand, and I have not sinned against thee, though thou huntest after my life to take it.
11 Olha, pois, meu pai, vê aqui a orla do teu manto na minha mão. No fato de haver eu cortado a orla do teu manto sem te matar, reconhece e vê que não há em mim nem mal nem rebeldia, e não pequei contra ti, ainda que andas à caça da minha vida para ma tirares.
12 Jehovah judge between me and thee, and Jehovah avenge me of thee; but my hand shall not be upon thee.
12 Julgue o Senhor entre mim e ti e vingue-me o Senhor a teu respeito; porém a minha mão não será contra ti.
13 As saith the proverb of the ancients, Out of the wicked cometh forth wickedness; but my hand shall not be upon thee.
13 Dos perversos procede a perversidade, diz o provérbio dos antigos; porém a minha mão não está contra ti.
14 After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea.
14 Após quem saiu o rei de Israel? A quem persegue? A um cão morto? A uma pulga?
15 Jehovah therefore be judge, and give sentence between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of thy hand.
15 Seja o Senhor o meu juiz, e julgue entre mim e ti, e veja, e pleiteie a minha causa, e me faça justiça, e me livre da tua mão.
16 And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.
16 Tendo Davi acabado de falar a Saul todas estas palavras, disse Saul: É isto a tua voz, meu filho Davi? E chorou Saul em voz alta.
17 And he said to David, Thou art more righteous than I; for thou hast rendered unto me good, whereas I have rendered unto thee evil.
17 Disse a Davi: Mais justo és do que eu; pois tu me recompensaste com bem, e eu te paguei com mal.
18 And thou hast declared this day how that thou hast dealt well with me, forasmuch as when Jehovah had delivered me up into thy hand, thou killedst me not.
18 Mostraste, hoje, que me fizeste bem; pois o Senhor me havia posto em tuas mãos, e tu me não mataste.
19 For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore Jehovah reward thee good for that which thou hast done unto me this day.
19 Porque quem há que, encontrando o inimigo, o deixa ir por bom caminho? O Senhor , pois, te pague com bem, pelo que, hoje, me fizeste.
20 And now, behold, I know that thou shalt surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in thy hand.
20 Agora, pois, tenho certeza de que serás rei e de que o reino de Israel há de ser firme na tua mão.
21 Swear now therefore unto me by Jehovah, that thou wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father’s house.
21 Portanto, jura-me pelo Senhor que não eliminarás a minha descendência, nem desfarás o meu nome da casa de meu pai.
22 And David sware unto Saul. And Saul went home; but David and his men gat them up unto the stronghold.
22 Então, jurou Davi a Saul, e este se foi para sua casa; porém Davi e os seus homens subiram ao lugar seguro.
