1 Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.
1 No terceiro ano do reinado de Oséias, filho de Elá, rei de Israel, Ezequias, filho de Acaz, rei de Judá, começou a reinar.
2 He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah.
2 Ele tinha vinte e cinco anos de idade quando começou a reinar, e reinou vinte e nove anos em Jerusalém. O nome de sua mãe era Abia, filha de Zacarias.
3 And he did that which was right in the eyes of LORD, according to all that David his father had done.
3 Ele fez o que o Senhor aprova, tal como tinha feito Davi, seu predecessor.
4 He removed the high places, and broke the pillars, and cut down the Asherah, and he broke in pieces the brazen serpent that Moses had made. For to those days the sons of Israel burned incense to it, and he called it Nehushtan.
4 Removeu os altares idólatras, quebrou as colunas sagradas e derrubou os postes sagrados. Despedaçou a serpente de bronze que Moisés havia feito, pois até àquela época os israelitas lhe queimavam incenso. Ela era chamada Neustã.
5 He trusted in LORD, the God of Israel, so that there was none like him among all the kings of Judah after him, nor [among those] who were before him.
5 Ezequias confiava no Senhor, o Deus de Israel. Nunca houve ninguém como ele entre todos os reis de Judá, nem antes nem depois dele.
6 For he clung to LORD. He did not depart from following him, but kept his commandments, which LORD commanded Moses.
6 Ele se apegou ao Senhor e não deixou de segui-lo; obedeceu aos mandamentos que o Senhor tinha dado a Moisés.
7 And LORD was with him. Wherever he went forth he prospered. And he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and did not serve him.
7 E o Senhor estava com ele; era bem sucedido em tudo o que fazia. Rebelou-se contra o rei da Assíria e deixou de submeter-se a ele.
8 He smote the Philistines to Gaza and the borders of it, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city.
8 Desde a torre de sentinela até à cidade fortificada, ele derrotou os filisteus, até Gaza e o seu território.
9 And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it.
9 No quarto ano do reinado do rei Ezequias, o sétimo ano do reinado de Oséias, filho de Elá, rei de Israel, Salmaneser, rei da Assíria, marchou contra Samaria e a cercou.
10 And at the end of three years they took it. Samaria was taken in the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel.
10 Ao fim de três anos, os assírios a tomaram. Assim a cidade foi conquistada no sexto ano do reinado de Ezequias, o nono ano do reinado de Oséias, rei de Israel.
11 And the king of Assyria carried Israel away to Assyria, and put them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,
11 O rei assírio deportou os israelitas para a Assíria e os estabeleceu em Hala, em Gozã do rio Tabor e nas cidades dos medos.
12 because they did not obey the voice of LORD their God, but transgressed his covenant, even all that Moses the servant of LORD commanded, and would not hear it, nor do it.
12 Isto aconteceu porque os israelitas não obedeceram ao Senhor seu Deus, mas violaram a sua aliança: tudo o que Moisés, o servo do Senhor, tinha ordenado. Não o ouviram nem lhe obedeceram.
13 Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah, and took them.
13 No décimo quarto ano do reinado do rei Ezequias, Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, atacou todas as cidades fortificadas de Judá e as conquistou.
14 And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have offended. Return from me. That which thou put on me I will bear. And the king of Assyria appointed to Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of
14 Então Ezequias, rei de Judá, enviou esta mensagem ao rei da Assíria, em Láquis: "Cometi um erro. Pára de atacar-me, e eu pagarei tudo que exigires". O rei da Assíria cobrou de Ezequias, rei de Judá, dez toneladas e meia de prata e uma tonelada e cinqüenta quilos de ouro.
15 And Hezekiah gave [him] all the silver that was found in the house of LORD, and in the treasures of the king's house.
15 Assim, Ezequias lhes deu toda a prata que se encontrou no templo e na tesouraria do palácio real.
16 At that time Hezekiah cut off [the gold from] the doors of the temple of LORD, and [from] the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.
16 Nessa ocasião Ezequias, rei de Judá, retirou o ouro com que havia coberto as portas e batentes do templo do Senhor, e o deu ao rei da Assíria.
17 And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rab-saris and Rabshakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great army to Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they came up, they came and stood by the conduit of the
17 De Láquis o rei da Assíria enviou ao rei Ezequias, em Jerusalém, seu general, seu oficial principal e seu comandante de campo com um grande exército. Eles subiram a Jerusalém e pararam no aqueduto do açude superior, na estrada que leva ao campo do Lavandeiro.
18 And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebnah the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.
18 Eles chamaram pelo rei; e o administrador do palácio, Eliaquim, filho de Hilquias, o secretário Sebna e o arquivista real Joá, filho de Asafe, foram ao seu encontro.
19 And Rabshakeh said to them, Say ye now to Hezekiah, Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this in which thou trust?
19 O comandante de campo lhes disse: "Digam isto a Ezequias: Assim diz o grande rei, o rei da Assíria: Em que você baseia sua confiança?
20 Thou say (but they are but vain words), [There is] counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom do thou trust that thou have rebelled against me?
20 Você pensa que meras palavras já são estratégia e poderio militar. Em quem você está confiando para se rebelar contra mim?
21 Now, behold, thou trust upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt, on which if a man leans it will go into his hand, and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust on him.
21 Você está confiando no Egito, aquele caniço quebrado, que espeta e perfura a mão do homem que nele se apóia! Assim o faraó, rei do Egito, retribui a quem confia nele.
22 But if ye say to me, We trust in LORD our God, is that not he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?
22 Mas, se vocês me disserem: "Estamos confiando no Senhor nosso Deus"; não é ele aquele cujos santuários e altares Ezequias removeu, dizendo a Judá e Jerusalém: "Vocês devem adorar diante deste altar em Jerusalém? "
23 Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.
23 Aceite, pois, agora, o desafio do meu senhor, o rei da Assíria: Eu lhe darei dois mil cavalos; se você tiver cavaleiros para eles!
24 How then can thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
24 Como você pode derrotar o mais insignificante guerreiro do meu senhor? Você confia no Egito para lhe dar carros de guerra e cavaleiros?
25 Have I now come up without LORD against this place to destroy it? LORD said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.
25 Além disso, será que vim atacar e destruir este local sem uma palavra da parte do Senhor? O próprio Senhor me disse que marchasse contra este país e o destruísse".
26 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebnah, and Joah, said to Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, to thy servants in the Syrian language, for we understand it. And do not speak with us in the Jews' language, in the ears of the people
26 Então Eliaquim, filho de Hilquias, Sebna e Joá disseram ao comandante de campo: "Por favor, fala com teus servos em aramaico, porque entendemos essa língua. Não fales em hebraico, pois assim o povo que está sobre os muros entenderá".
27 But Rabshakeh said to them, Has my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? [Has he] not [sent me] to the men who sit on the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own urine with you?
27 O comandante, porém, respondeu: "Será que meu senhor enviou-me para dizer essas coisas, somente para o seu senhor e para você e não para os que estão sentados no muro, que, como vocês, terão de comer as próprias fezes e beber a própria urina? "
28 Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and spoke, saying, Hear ye the word of the great king, the king of Assyria.
28 Então o comandante levantou-se e gritou em hebraico: "Ouçam a palavra do grande rei, o rei da Assíria!
29 Thus says the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you out of his hand.
29 Assim diz o rei: Não deixem que Ezequias os engane. Ele não poderá livrá-los de minha mão.
30 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in LORD, saying, LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.
30 Não deixem Ezequias convencê-los a confiar no Senhor, quando diz: ‘Com certeza o Senhor nos livrará; esta cidade não será entregue nas mãos do rei da Assíria’.
31 Do not hearken to Hezekiah. For thus says the king of Assyria, Make your peace with me, and come out to me. And eat ye every man of his vine, and every man of his fig tree, and drink ye every man the waters of his own cistern,
31 Não dêem ouvidos a Ezequias. Assim diz o rei da Assíria: Façam paz comigo e rendam-se. Então cada um de vocês comerá de sua própria videira e de sua própria figueira e beberá água de sua própria cisterna,
32 until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and of honey, that ye may live, and not die. And do not hearken to Hezekiah when he per
32 até que eu venha e os leve para uma terra igual à de vocês, terra de cereais, de vinho, terra de pão e de vinhas, terra de oliveiras e de mel. Escolham a vida e não a morte! Não dêem ouvidos a Ezequias, pois ele os está iludindo, quando diz: ‘O Senhor nos livrará’.
33 Have any of the gods of the nations ever delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
33 Será que o deus de alguma nação conseguiu livrar sua terra das mãos do rei da Assíria?
34 Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?
34 Onde estão os deuses de Hamate e de Arpade? Onde estão os deuses de Sefarvaim, Hena e Iva? Acaso livraram Samaria das minhas mãos?
35 Who are they among all the gods of the countries that have delivered their country out of my hand, that LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?
35 Qual dentre todos os deuses dessas nações conseguiu livrar sua terra do meu poder? Como então o Senhor poderá livrar Jerusalém das minhas mãos? "
36 But the people were silent, and did not answer him a word, for the king's commandment was, saying, Do not answer him.
36 Mas o povo permaneceu calado e nada disse em resposta, pois o rei tinha ordenado: "Não lhe respondam".
37 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.
37 Então o administrador do palácio, Eliaquim, filho de Hilquias, o secretário Sebna e o arquivista real Joá, filho de Asafe, retornaram com as vestes rasgadas a Ezequias e lhe relataram o que o comandante de campo tinha dito.
