1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ according to a commandment of God our Savior, and Lord Jesus Christ our hope,
1 Paulo, um apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, segundo o mandado de Deus, nosso Salvador, e do Senhor Jesus Cristo, que é a nossa esperança,
2 to Timothy, a genuine child in faith: Grace, mercy, peace, from God our Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
2 a Timóteo, meu próprio filho na fé: Graça, misericórdia e paz, da parte de Deus, nosso Pai, e da de Jesus Cristo, nosso Senhor.
3 As I urged thee, while going to Macedonia, remain in Ephesis, so that thou might command certain men not to teach something different,
3 Como te supliquei que ainda continuasses em Éfeso, quando parti para a Macedônia, a fim de advertires a alguns que não ensinem outra doutrina,
4 nor to heed myths and endless genealogies, which cause controversies rather than stewardship of God in faith.
4 nem se deem a fábulas ou a genealogias intermináveis, que mais produzem questões do que edificação de Deus, que consiste na fé; assim o faço.
5 But the end of the commandment is love out of a pure heart, and a good conscience, and non-hypocritical faith.
5 Ora, o fim do mandamento é a caridade de um coração puro, e de uma boa consciência, e de uma fé não fingida.
6 From which some having swerved have turned aside to empty talk,
6 Da qual alguns, tendo se desviado, se desviaram para vãs contendas;
7 desiring to be law teachers, understanding neither what they say, nor about what they confidently assert.
7 desejando ser professores da lei e não entendendo nem o que dizem nem o que afirmam.
8 But we know that the law is good, if any man uses it lawfully,
8 Mas sabemos que a lei é boa, se alguém a usa legitimamente,
9 knowing this, that law is not laid down for righteous men, but for the lawless and rebellious, for the irreverent and sinful, for the impious and profane, for father killers and mother killers, for man killers,
9 sabendo isto, que a lei não é feita para um homem justo, mas para os injustos e desobedientes, para os ímpios e pecadores, para os irreligiosos e profanos, para os assassinos de pais e assassinos de mães, para os homicidas,
10 for fornicators, for homosexuals, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine
10 para os fornicadores, para aqueles que se contaminam com o sexo masculino, para os sequestradores, para os mentirosos, para os perjuros e para tudo o que for contrário à sã doutrina,
11 according to the good-news of the glory of the blessed God, of which I was entrusted.
11 conforme o glorioso evangelho do Deus bendito, que me foi confiado.
12 And I have gratitude to the Christ--Jesus our Lord--who empowered me, because he considered me faithful, having placed in service
12 E dou graças a Cristo Jesus, nosso Senhor, que me capacitou, porque me considerou fiel, pondo-me no ministério,
13 the man who was formerly blasphemous, and a persecutor, and an aggressor. But I obtained mercy because I did it being ignorant in unbelief.
13 a mim, que dantes fui blasfemo, e perseguidor, e opressor; mas obtive misericórdia, porque o fiz ignorantemente, na incredulidade.
14 And the grace of our Lord was filled to overflowing with the faith and love in Christ Jesus.
14 E a graça de nosso Senhor superabundou com a fé e o amor que há em Cristo Jesus.
15 Faithful is the saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinful men, of whom I am foremost.
15 Esta é uma palavra fiel e digna de toda aceitação, que Cristo Jesus veio ao mundo, para salvar os pecadores, dos quais eu sou o principal.
16 But because of this I obtained mercy, so that in me, the foremost, Jesus Christ might show forth all longsuffering for an example of those who were going to believe in him for eternal life.
16 Mas, por isso, obtive misericórdia, para que primeiro em mim Jesus Cristo mostrasse toda a sua longanimidade, para exemplo dos que haviam de crer nele para a vida eterna.
17 Now to the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, alone wise, to God is honor and glory into the ages of the ages. Truly.
17 Ora, ao Rei eterno, imortal, invisível, ao único Deus sábio seja honra e glória para sempre e sempre. Amém.
18 This command I set before thee, child Timothy, according to the prophecies leading the way for thee, so that by them thou might war the good warfare.
18 Este mandato eu confio a ti, filho Timóteo, que, segundo as profecias que houveram acerca de ti, para que tu, por meio delas, combatesse uma boa guerra,
19 Holding faith and a good conscience, which some, having put away, made shipwreck about the faith,
19 conservando a fé e a boa consciência, que alguns colocaram de lado e naufragaram na fé.
20 of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I delivered to Satan, so that they may be disciplined not to blaspheme.
20 E entre esses foram Himeneu e Alexandre, os quais entreguei a Satanás, para que aprendam a não blasfemar.
