1 Samuel 1

1 Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim of the hill-country of Ephraim. And his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, and Ephraimite.
1 Havia um homem chamado Elcana, que vivia em Ramá, na região de Zufe, na região montanhosa de Efraim. Era filho de Jeroão, filho de Eliú, filho de Toú, filho de Zufe, da tribo de Efraim.
2 And he had two wives: the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of other Peninnah. And Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
2 Elcana tinha duas esposas: a primeira se chamava Ana, e a segunda, Penina. Penina tinha filhos; Ana, porém, não os tinha.
3 And this man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice to LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests to LORD, were there.
3 Todos os anos, Elcana subia de sua cidade até Siló para adorar o S enhor dos Exércitos e oferecer sacrifícios a ele. Nesse tempo, os sacerdotes do S enhor eram Hofni e Fineias, os dois filhos de Eli.
4 And when the day came that Elkanah sacrificed, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions,
4 Quando Elcana apresentava seu sacrifício, dava porções de carne à sua esposa Penina e a cada um dos filhos e filhas dela.
5 but to Hannah he gave a double portion, for he loved Hannah, but LORD had shut up her womb.
5 A Ana, porém, dava uma porção especial, porque a amava, apesar de o S enhor não lhe ter dado filhos.
6 And her rival provoked her greatly, to make her fret, because LORD had shut up her womb.
6 E sua rival a provocava e zombava dela, porque o S enhor não lhe tinha dado filhos.
7 And [as] he did so year by year when she went up to the house of LORD, so she provoked her. Therefore she wept, and did not eat.
7 Todos os anos era a mesma coisa: Penina provocava Ana quando iam à casa do S enhor e, a cada vez, Ana chorava muito e ficava sem comer.
8 And Elkanah her husband said to her, Hannah, why do thou weep? And why do thou not eat? And why is thy heart grieved? Am not I better to thee than ten sons?
8 “Ana, por que você chora?”, perguntava Elcana, seu marido. “Por que não come? Por que está tão triste? Será que não sou melhor para você do que dez filhos?”
9 So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest was sitting upon his seat by the door-post of the temple of LORD.
9 Certa vez, depois que comeram e beberam em Siló, Ana se levantou. O sacerdote Eli estava sentado ao lado da entrada do templo do S enhor .
10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to LORD, and wept much.
10 Ana estava muito angustiada e chorava sem parar enquanto orava ao S enhor .
11 And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou will indeed look on the affliction of thy handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thy handmaid, but will give to thy handmaid a man-child, then I will give him to LORD all t
11 Então fez o seguinte voto: “Ó S enhor dos Exércitos, se olhares com atenção para o sofrimento de tua serva, se responderes à minha oração e me deres um filho, eu o dedicarei para sempre ao S enhor , e o cabelo dele nunca será cortado”.
12 And it came to pass, as she continued praying before LORD, that Eli noticed her mouth.
12 Enquanto ela fazia sua oração ao S enhor , Eli a observava.
13 Now Hannah, she spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.
13 Viu que os lábios dela se moviam, mas, como não ouvia som algum, pensou que ela estivesse bêbada.
14 And Eli said to her, How long will thou be drunken? Put away thy wine from thee.
14 “Até quando vai se embriagar?”, disse ele. “Largue esse vinho!”
15 And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I poured out my soul before LORD.
15 Ana respondeu: “Meu senhor, não bebi vinho, nem outra coisa mais forte. Eu estava derramando meu coração diante do S enhor , pois sou uma mulher profundamente triste.
16 Count not thy handmaid for an iniquitous woman, for out of the abundance of my complaint and my provocation have I spoken until now.
16 Não pense que sou uma mulher sem caráter! Estava apenas orando por causa de minha grande angústia e aflição”.
17 Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant thy petition that thou have asked of him.
17 “Nesse caso, vá em paz”, disse Eli. “Que o Deus de Israel lhe conceda o que você pediu.”
18 And she said, Let thy handmaid find favor in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and ate, and her countenance was no more [sad].
18 “Muito obrigada!”, exclamou ela. Então Ana voltou e começou a se alimentar novamente, e seu rosto já não estava triste.
19 And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah. And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and LORD remembered her.
19 Na manhã seguinte, a família toda se levantou bem cedo e foi adorar o S enhor novamente. Depois, voltaram para casa, em Ramá. Elcana teve relações com Ana, e o S enhor se lembrou dela.
20 And it came to pass, when the time came about, that Hannah conceived, and bore a son. And she called his name Samuel, [saying], Because I have asked him of LORD.
20 No devido tempo, Ana engravidou e teve um filho. Ela lhe deu o nome de Samuel, e disse: “Eu o pedi ao S enhor ”.
21 And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer to LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.
21 No ano seguinte, Elcana e sua família fizeram a viagem anual para oferecer sacrifícios ao S enhor e cumprir seu voto.
22 But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, [Not] until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before LORD, and abide there forever.
22 Ana, porém, não foi. “Vamos esperar até o menino ser desmamado”, disse ela ao marido. “Então o levarei ao S enhor e o deixarei lá para sempre.”
23 And Elkanah her husband said to her, Do what seems good to thee. Remain until thou have weaned him, only LORD establish his word. So the woman remained and gave her son suck, until she weaned him.
23 “Faça como lhe parecer melhor”, respondeu Elcana. “Fique aqui até ele desmamar, e que o S enhor a ajude a cumprir sua promessa.” Então ela ficou em casa e cuidou de seu filho até desmamá-lo.
24 And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of meal, and a bottle of wine, and brought him to the house of LORD in Shiloh, and the child was young.
24 Quando o menino foi desmamado, Ana o levou à casa do S enhor em Siló, embora ele ainda fosse pequeno. Também levou um novilho de três anos para o sacrifício, um cesto de farinha e uma vasilha de couro cheia de vinho.
25 And they killed the bullock, and brought the child to Eli.
25 Depois que sacrificaram o novilho, levaram o menino a Eli,
26 And she said, Oh, my lord, as thy soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by thee here, praying to LORD.
26 e Ana lhe disse: “Com certeza o senhor se lembra de mim. Sou a mulher que esteve aqui anos atrás, orando ao S enhor .
27 I prayed for this child, and LORD has given me my petition which I asked of him.
27 Pedi ao S enhor que me desse este menino, e o S enhor atendeu a meu pedido.
28 Therefore also I have granted him to LORD; as long as he lives he is granted to LORD. And he worshipped LORD there.
28 Agora, eu o dedico ao S enhor . Por toda a sua vida ele pertencerá ao S enhor ”. E ali adoraram o S enhor .
