On that day Deborah and Barak, son of Abinoam, sang this song:
Praise the Lord!
Listen, you kings!
O Lord,
and the mountains shook
In the days of Shamgar, son of Anath,
Villages in Israel were deserted—
When the people chose new gods,

Issachar’s commanders were with Deborah.
Why did you sit between the saddlebags?
Gilead remained east of the Jordan River.
But Zebulun mocked death,
Kings came and fought.
The stars fought from heaven.
The Kishon River swept them away—
Then the horses’ hoofs pounded.
“Curse Meroz!” said the Messenger of the Lord.
Jael, wife of Heber the Kenite,
Sisera asked for water.
She reached for a tent peg with one hand,
He sank.
Sisera’s mother looked through her window
Her wisest servants gave her an answer.
“They’re really finding and dividing the loot:
May all your enemies die like that, O Lord.
