2 Samuel 8

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

1 And after|strong="H0310" this it came to pass, that David|strong="H1732" smote|strong="H5221" the Philistines|strong="H6430", and subdued|strong="H3665" them: and David|strong="H1732" took|strong="H3947" Metheg-ammah|strong="H4965" out of the hand|strong="H3027" of the Philistines|strong="H6430".

2 And he smote|strong="H5221" Moab|strong="H4124", and measured|strong="H4058" them with a line|strong="H2256", casting them down|strong="H7901" to the ground|strong="H0776"; even with two|strong="H8147" lines|strong="H2256" measured|strong="H4058" he to put to death|strong="H4191", and with one full|strong="H4393" line|strong="H2256" to keep alive|strong="H2421". And so the Moabites|strong="H4124" became David’s|strong="H1732" servants|strong="H5650", and brought|strong="H5375" gifts|strong="H4503".

3 David|strong="H1732" smote|strong="H5221" also Hadadezer|strong="H1909", the son|strong="H1121" of Rehob|strong="H7340", king|strong="H4428" of Zobah|strong="H6678", as he went|strong="H3212" to recover|strong="H7725" his border|strong="H3027" at the river|strong="H5104" Euphrates|strong="H6578".

4 And David|strong="H1732" took|strong="H3920" from him a thousand|strong="H0505" chariots, and seven|strong="H7651" hundred|strong="H3967" horsemen|strong="H6571", and twenty|strong="H6242" thousand|strong="H0505" footmen|strong="H0376": and David|strong="H1732" houghed|strong="H6131" all the chariot|strong="H7393" horses, but reserved|strong="H3498" of them for an hundred|strong="H3967" chariots|strong="H7393".

5 And when the Syrians|strong="H0758" of Damascus|strong="H1834" came|strong="H0935" to succour|strong="H5826" Hadadezer|strong="H1909" king|strong="H4428" of Zobah|strong="H6678", David|strong="H1732" slew|strong="H5221" of the Syrians|strong="H0758" two|strong="H8147" and twenty|strong="H6242" thousand|strong="H0505" men|strong="H0376".

6 Then David|strong="H1732" put|strong="H7760" garrisons|strong="H5333" in Syria|strong="H0758" of Damascus|strong="H1834": and the Syrians|strong="H0758" became servants|strong="H5650" to David|strong="H1732", and brought|strong="H5375" gifts|strong="H4503". And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* preserved|strong="H3467" David|strong="H1732" whithersoever he went|strong="H1980".

7 And David|strong="H1732" took|strong="H3947" the shields|strong="H7982" of gold|strong="H2091" that were on the servants|strong="H5650" of Hadadezer|strong="H1909", and brought|strong="H0935" them to Jerusalem|strong="H3389".

8 And from Betah|strong="H0984", and from Berothai|strong="H1268", cities|strong="H5892" of Hadadezer|strong="H1909", king|strong="H4428" David|strong="H1732" took|strong="H3947" exceeding|strong="H3966" much|strong="H7235" brass|strong="H5178".

9 When Toi|strong="H8583" king|strong="H4428" of Hamath|strong="H2574" heard|strong="H8085" that David|strong="H1732" had smitten|strong="H5221" all the host|strong="H2428" of Hadadezer|strong="H1909",

10 Then Toi|strong="H8583" sent|strong="H7971" Joram|strong="H3141" his son|strong="H1121" unto king|strong="H4428" David|strong="H1732", to salute|strong="H7592" him, and to bless|strong="H1288" him, because he had fought|strong="H3898" against Hadadezer|strong="H1909", and smitten|strong="H5221" him: for Hadadezer|strong="H1909" had wars|strong="H0376" with Toi|strong="H8583". And Joram brought with him|strong="H3027" vessels|strong="H3627" of silver|strong="H3701", and vessels|strong="H3627" of gold|strong="H2091", and vessels|strong="H3627" of brass|strong="H5178":

11 Which also king|strong="H4428" David|strong="H1732" did dedicate|strong="H6942" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, with the silver|strong="H3701" and gold|strong="H2091" that he had dedicated|strong="H6942" of all nations|strong="H1471" which he subdued|strong="H3533";

12 Of Syria|strong="H0758", and of Moab|strong="H4124", and of the children|strong="H1121" of Ammon|strong="H5983", and of the Philistines|strong="H6430", and of Amalek|strong="H6002", and of the spoil|strong="H7998" of Hadadezer|strong="H1909", son|strong="H1121" of Rehob|strong="H7340", king|strong="H4428" of Zobah|strong="H6678".

13 And David|strong="H1732" gat|strong="H6213" him a name|strong="H8034" when he returned|strong="H7725" from smiting|strong="H5221" of the Syrians|strong="H0758" in the valley|strong="H1516" of salt|strong="H4417", being eighteen|strong="H8083" thousand|strong="H0505" men.

14 And he put|strong="H7760" garrisons|strong="H5333" in Edom|strong="H0123"; throughout all Edom|strong="H0123" put|strong="H7760" he garrisons|strong="H5333", and all they of Edom|strong="H0123" became David’s|strong="H1732" servants|strong="H5650". And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* preserved|strong="H3467" David|strong="H1732" whithersoever he went|strong="H1980".

15 And David|strong="H1732" reigned|strong="H4427" over all Israel|strong="H3478"; and David|strong="H1732" executed|strong="H6213" judgment|strong="H4941" and justice|strong="H6666" unto all his people|strong="H5971".

16 And Joab|strong="H3097" the son|strong="H1121" of Zeruiah|strong="H6870" was over the host|strong="H6635"; and Jehoshaphat|strong="H3092" the son|strong="H1121" of Ahilud|strong="H0286" was recorder|strong="H2142";

17 And Zadok|strong="H6659" the son|strong="H1121" of Ahitub|strong="H0285", and Ahimelech|strong="H0288" the son|strong="H1121" of Abiathar|strong="H0054", were the priests|strong="H3548"; and Seraiah|strong="H8304" was the scribe|strong="H5608";

18 And Benaiah|strong="H1141" the son|strong="H1121" of Jehoiada|strong="H3077" was over both the Cherethites|strong="H3774" and the Pelethites|strong="H6432"; and David’s|strong="H1732" sons|strong="H1121" were chief rulers|strong="H3548".
