Samuel 23

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

Then they told|strong="H5046" David|strong="H1732", saying|strong="H0559", Behold, the Philistines|strong="H6430" fight|strong="H3898" against Keilah|strong="H7084", and they rob|strong="H8154" the threshingfloors|strong="H1637".

Therefore David|strong="H1732" enquired|strong="H7592" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, saying|strong="H0559", Shall I go|strong="H3212" and smite|strong="H5221" these Philistines|strong="H6430"? And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H0559" unto David|strong="H1732", Go|strong="H3212", and smite|strong="H5221" the Philistines|strong="H6430", and save|strong="H3467" Keilah|strong="H7084".

And David’s|strong="H1732" men|strong="H0582" said|strong="H0559" unto him, Behold, we be afraid|strong="H3373" here in Judah|strong="H3063": how much more then if we come|strong="H3212" to Keilah|strong="H7084" against the armies|strong="H4634" of the Philistines|strong="H6430"?

Then David|strong="H1732" enquired|strong="H7592" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* yet again|strong="H3254". And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* answered|strong="H6030" him and said|strong="H0559", Arise|strong="H6965", go down|strong="H3381" to Keilah|strong="H7084"; for I will deliver|strong="H5414" the Philistines|strong="H6430" into thine hand|strong="H3027".

So David|strong="H1732" and his men|strong="H0582" went|strong="H3212" to Keilah|strong="H7084", and fought|strong="H3898" with the Philistines|strong="H6430", and brought away|strong="H5090" their cattle|strong="H4735", and smote|strong="H5221" them with a great|strong="H1419" slaughter|strong="H4347". So David|strong="H1732" saved|strong="H3467" the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Keilah|strong="H7084".

And it came to pass, when Abiathar|strong="H0054" the son|strong="H1121" of Ahimelech|strong="H0288" fled|strong="H1272" to David|strong="H1732" to Keilah|strong="H7084", that he came down|strong="H3381" with an ephod|strong="H0646" in his hand|strong="H3027".

And it was told|strong="H5046" Saul|strong="H7586" that David|strong="H1732" was come|strong="H0935" to Keilah|strong="H7084". And Saul|strong="H7586" said|strong="H0559", God|strong="H0430" hath delivered|strong="H5234" him into mine hand|strong="H3027"; for he is shut in|strong="H5462", by entering|strong="H0935" into a town|strong="H5892" that hath gates|strong="H1817" and bars|strong="H1280".

And Saul|strong="H7586" called|strong="H8085" all the people|strong="H5971" together|strong="H8085" to war|strong="H4421", to go down|strong="H3381" to Keilah|strong="H7084", to besiege|strong="H6696" David|strong="H1732" and his men|strong="H0582".

And David|strong="H1732" knew|strong="H3045" that Saul|strong="H7586" secretly practised|strong="H2790" mischief|strong="H7451" against him; and he said|strong="H0559" to Abiathar|strong="H0054" the priest|strong="H3548", Bring hither|strong="H5066" the ephod|strong="H0646".

Then said|strong="H0559" David|strong="H1732", O \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478", thy servant|strong="H5650" hath certainly|strong="H8085" heard|strong="H8085" that Saul|strong="H7586" seeketh|strong="H1245" to come|strong="H0935" to Keilah|strong="H7084", to destroy|strong="H7843" the city|strong="H5892" for my sake.

Will the men|strong="H1167" of Keilah|strong="H7084" deliver me up|strong="H5462" into his hand|strong="H3027"? will Saul|strong="H7586" come down|strong="H3381", as thy servant|strong="H5650" hath heard|strong="H8085"? O \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478", I beseech thee, tell|strong="H5046" thy servant|strong="H5650". And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H0559", He will come down|strong="H3381".

Then said|strong="H0559" David|strong="H1732", Will the men|strong="H1167" of Keilah|strong="H7084" deliver|strong="H5462" me and my men|strong="H0582" into the hand|strong="H3027" of Saul|strong="H7586"? And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H0559", They will deliver thee up|strong="H5462".

Then David|strong="H1732" and his men|strong="H0582", which were about six|strong="H8337" hundred|strong="H3967", arose|strong="H6965" and departed|strong="H3318" out of Keilah|strong="H7084", and went|strong="H1980" whithersoever|strong="H0834" they could go|strong="H1980". And it was told|strong="H5046" Saul|strong="H7586" that David|strong="H1732" was escaped|strong="H4422" from Keilah|strong="H7084"; and he forbare|strong="H2308" to go forth|strong="H3318".

And David|strong="H1732" abode|strong="H3427" in the wilderness|strong="H4057" in strong holds|strong="H4679", and remained|strong="H3427" in a mountain|strong="H2022" in the wilderness|strong="H4057" of Ziph|strong="H2128". And Saul|strong="H7586" sought|strong="H1245" him every day|strong="H3117", but God|strong="H0430" delivered|strong="H5414" him not into his hand|strong="H3027".

And David|strong="H1732" saw|strong="H7200" that Saul|strong="H7586" was come out|strong="H3318" to seek|strong="H1245" his life|strong="H5315": and David|strong="H1732" was in the wilderness|strong="H4057" of Ziph|strong="H2128" in a wood|strong="H2793".

And Jonathan|strong="H3083" Saul’s|strong="H7586" son|strong="H1121" arose|strong="H6965", and went|strong="H3212" to David|strong="H1732" into the wood|strong="H2793", and strengthened|strong="H2388" his hand|strong="H3027" in God|strong="H0430".

And he said|strong="H0559" unto him, Fear|strong="H3372" not: for the hand|strong="H3027" of Saul|strong="H7586" my father|strong="H0001" shall not find|strong="H4672" thee; and thou shalt be king|strong="H4427" over Israel|strong="H3478", and I shall be next|strong="H4932" unto thee; and that also Saul|strong="H7586" my father|strong="H0001" knoweth|strong="H3045".

And they two|strong="H8147" made|strong="H3772" a covenant|strong="H1285" before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*: and David|strong="H1732" abode|strong="H3427" in the wood|strong="H2793", and Jonathan|strong="H3083" went|strong="H1980" to his house|strong="H1004".

Then came up|strong="H5927" the Ziphites|strong="H2130" to Saul|strong="H7586" to Gibeah|strong="H1390", saying|strong="H0559", Doth not David|strong="H1732" hide|strong="H5641" himself with us in strong holds|strong="H4679" in the wood|strong="H2793", in the hill|strong="H1389" of Hachilah|strong="H2444", which is on the south|strong="H3225" of Jeshimon|strong="H3452"?

Now therefore, O king|strong="H4428", come down|strong="H3381" according to all the desire|strong="H0185" of thy soul|strong="H5315" to come down|strong="H3381"; and our part shall be to deliver|strong="H5462" him into the king’s|strong="H4428" hand|strong="H3027".

And Saul|strong="H7586" said|strong="H0559", Blessed|strong="H1288" be ye of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; for ye have compassion|strong="H2550" on me.

Go|strong="H3212", I pray you, prepare|strong="H3559" yet, and know|strong="H3045" and see|strong="H7200" his place|strong="H4725" where his haunt|strong="H7272" is, and who hath seen|strong="H7200" him there: for it is told|strong="H0559" me that he dealeth very|strong="H6191" subtilly|strong="H6191".

See|strong="H7200" therefore, and take knowledge|strong="H3045" of all the lurking places|strong="H4224" where he hideth|strong="H2244" himself, and come ye again|strong="H7725" to me with the certainty|strong="H3559", and I will go|strong="H1980" with you: and it shall come to pass, if he be|strong="H3426" in the land|strong="H0776", that I will search|strong="H2664" him out throughout all the thousands|strong="H0505" of Judah|strong="H3063".

And they arose|strong="H6965", and went|strong="H3212" to Ziph|strong="H2128" before|strong="H6440" Saul|strong="H7586": but David|strong="H1732" and his men|strong="H0582" were in the wilderness|strong="H4057" of Maon|strong="H4584", in the plain|strong="H6160" on the south|strong="H3225" of Jeshimon|strong="H3452".

Saul|strong="H7586" also and his men|strong="H0582" went|strong="H3212" to seek|strong="H1245" him. And they told|strong="H5046" David|strong="H1732": wherefore he came down|strong="H3381" into a rock|strong="H5553", and abode|strong="H3427" in the wilderness|strong="H4057" of Maon|strong="H4584". And when Saul|strong="H7586" heard|strong="H8085" that, he pursued|strong="H7291" after|strong="H0310" David|strong="H1732" in the wilderness|strong="H4057" of Maon|strong="H4584".

And Saul|strong="H7586" went|strong="H3212" on this side|strong="H6654" of the mountain|strong="H2022", and David|strong="H1732" and his men|strong="H0582" on that side|strong="H6654" of the mountain|strong="H2022": and David|strong="H1732" made haste|strong="H2648" to get away|strong="H3212" for fear|strong="H6440" of Saul|strong="H7586"; for Saul|strong="H7586" and his men|strong="H0582" compassed|strong="H5849" David|strong="H1732" and his men|strong="H0582" round about|strong="H5849" to take|strong="H8610" them.

But there came|strong="H0935" a messenger|strong="H4397" unto Saul|strong="H7586", saying|strong="H0559", Haste|strong="H4116" thee, and come|strong="H3212"; for the Philistines|strong="H6430" have invaded|strong="H6584" the land|strong="H0776".

Wherefore Saul|strong="H7586" returned|strong="H7725" from pursuing|strong="H7291" after|strong="H0310" David|strong="H1732", and went|strong="H3212" against|strong="H7125" the Philistines|strong="H6430": therefore they called|strong="H7121" that place|strong="H4725" Sela-hammahlekoth|strong="H5555".

And David|strong="H1732" went up|strong="H5927" from thence, and dwelt|strong="H3427" in strong holds|strong="H4679" at En-gedi|strong="H5872".
